MRA Results in, and New Dr, is now a part of my team.

Thursday, January 26, 2012

Havent been able to blog much as it would not load for me but here is what has been going on. My primary care dr. sent me to my orthopedic surgeon to check my left shoulder which he did rotator cuff surgery on in May 2010. He did x-rays and ordered a MRA (an MRI with dye injected into the area). Monday I got the results, there are no tears, Thank you God, but the muscles are atrophying. So he has now sent me to a neurologist. They were able to get me in today. Very nice dr and thorough. He checked me over pretty good, even stuck my arms all over with a safety pin. Felt it on my right side but nothing on the left. The next step he wants to take is to run an emg test to see how well the nerves are working from neck through my are, possibly have periphial neuropathy. All this is just dandy but no one is concerned at this time about the pain and that the meds I am on are not helping it. I dont see my pc dr for another 2 weeks. Oh yeah friday I start pt on my arthritic knees, more pain, but hopefully there will be some gain from it.
I know this sounds like I am in a pity party, but really I am not I am just frustrated as I have been doing fairly good in the pain department for the last year and now all of a sudden am getting slam blasted from all over with it again and have no idea why. Living with chronic pain on a daily basis is hard as you never know when it is going to flare and how bad the flare will be. I am getting at least 30 minutes of exercise in daily, in short spurts, which makes me very happy and feel like I am fighting back some. Also doing fairly well with nutrition, staying with in my guidelines and 90% is healthily all the time if not more.

Be persistent and I do hope you cand find some relief. I also suffer from chronic pain as a paraplegic and seriously it is not fair to feel pain below my injury level(the base of my bra down) and not get to feel the good stuff too! I just keep the faith and try and do what I can to be as active as possible! I also am on oxycodone, but it just takes the edge off. I only take it when I just can't handle the pain and function.

Good luck, hope they can pinpoint a specific problem in the shoulder they can treat!

Thank you Kris, I had just had my pc take me off of oxycodone the begining of the month and up my tramadol abd see if that would work as well. I fear I made a mistake with all this new stuff popping up now. He and I will have to re-evaluate in 2 weeks. Thanks for caring!

I here what you are saying re the pain. I am been celebrating 7 days without any need for pain relief. I have a cocktail and had taken them virtually daily for 4 months, (and some of the pain relief includes morphine.) For me it seems to go in cycles of virtually daily for about that length of time, then very little for 2-3 weeks.

I hope that you get to the bottom of your problem and that it is resolved.
