The Loss of a Good Man

Sunday, March 24, 2013

March 16, 2013 is a day the world lost a good man. My best friend John passed away last week. He was taken away too soon. He was the best man I knew. Always greeted you with a smile. A great father of two sons and a daughter. A loving older brother who knew the value of family. An avid woodsman, he was strong in his Native traditions. John loved to play Call of Duty: Black Ops--and was the best zombie killer in the neighborhood. Loved by many nieces and nephews, he always made time for them. John had the best hugs--I felt a safety in his arms that I never knew existed. We could talk for hours and never get bored, he had such a good sense of humor and we laughed often. We saw each other everyday. His favorite color was blue--and always looked so handsome whenever he wore it. John was the type of man who would help anyone that needed it. He would give you his last dollar if that's what you needed. He was so humble, such a beautiful heart. He loved wolves. He was a good artist, although he thought his drawings were "just doodles." We went for rides all over the reservation. I loved to listen to his stories about his youth. He often spent time fishing and hunting. I catch glimpses of John when I look at his sons. It breaks my heart. We had so many plans. His youngest son wanted to have a bbq for his birthday at my house. We were planning an "Avengers" theme. I feel so lost without him. My heart will never be the same. I will never be the same. I'm so grateful to have been blessed with the time we had together. To have known such a man. I take comfort knowing he's in a better place, and that someday we will see each other again. Until then, Rest In Peace John.

The world will miss you. emoticon

Reyna, I am so sorry it took me so long to get here and read this. I have been running backwards it seems!

I am so sorry that you lost John. He's having a beer with my Uncle Don, CHALEY3's friend who passed a yesterday, and a few of my exes. They will comtinue to watch over us, and those hugs you will never forget. So once in a while, wrap a towel around your back and hug yourself... that's what I do when I need a hug from someone who isn't there to hug me.

I understand you will be grieving, but please do not give up on us. We are here to help you through this in any way we can. Where do you live? I can send someone to hug you immediately!

Peace to John, and peace to his family and to you. Now I am tearing up again. I swear sometimes it is so sad when you cannot be there in PERSON to help a person you truly consider a friend.

And I am so sorry you had to blog about this instead of something happy.

My sincere sympathy to you. At a family funeral this past summer, the minister said "Love never dies" . That line will strengthen me forever. I hope it helps and speaks to your heart too.
