I joined SP in January of this year, solely from the urging of my daughter TC. She had been losing weight since October 2013 and I was so proud of her! I really don't like to exercise and I thought I was too old to be trying to get healthy and fit, but when TC said there was an RV group with some members around my age I decided I would try it. The first challenge was the team weight loss and I gave it as much effort as I could, considering how out of shape I was. I was very excited when the team I was on won, even though it was only by a fraction of a pound less than TC's team. In Feburary TC asked me to join her in the Live Healthy Iowa weight loss and fitness challenge. I didn't think a team of just two of us would be much of a threat to the other teams but I didn't want to let her down. At the end of 10 weeks we came in first out of the 18 teams in the Quad-City area and number 53 out of 500 teams in Iowa. This challenge was during the same time as our SP weight loss challenge and we were very appreciative of the support of the RV group.
I have lost 25% of my body weight and my high cholesterol is now "excellent". My doctor is happy with my weight loss and says it is so nice to see TC's weight coming off so fast also (my doctor is at the same hospital where TC works). Before SP I had lost 30 lbs. by just cutting back on food portions and eating a salad every day for lunch. I did not do any exercise so I still felt tired all the time. For Christmas last year TC gave me a Fitbit tracker and her roommate (my "adopted" son) gave me a treadmill. Darn! No more excuses not to exercise! Now I get anxious if I don't get in any exercise during the day (like yesterday!)
This is my first blog and I don't post too often on our RV site but I do read all the posts every day and really look forward to learning how everyone is doing. This is a super group and I thank you all for your comments and encouragement. I love SP!
I like the SP challenges because they keep me motivated and give me something new to look forward to every week. I know that thinking up new challenges is difficult and I really appreciate the effort that Sharon expends as team leader. Big thanks to her for all her hard work.
