Whole 30 - day 16

I started the Whole 30 on June 1st after returning from a trip to Vegas with a girl friend. The trip was disappointing as we were both sick with colds and I had a sinus infection. What a waste!

For the first couple of weeks of the Whole 30, I managed well. The weather certainly helps. Barbecued meats with a healthy salad most nights have been working pretty well.

The Whole 30 is a plan to eliminate the main problematic food groups that affect most people - no dairy, sugar, grains, legumes and alcohol for 30 days. I am actually finding it easier than a "points" system like weight watchers as there is no real measuring (just reasonable portions) and by eliminating those problematic sugars and grainy carbs, I am not tempted to overindulge in them... The Whole 30 authors call these foods "Foods with no brakes" and I definitely have a lot of those on my list. Eliminating them completely is working for me!

Unfortunately I was on antibiotics for the first two weeks - I still have some sinus issues hanging around which is so frustrating. I wish I felt well! I'm exhausted and ache quite a bit. I'm not sure what is withdrawals from the sugar, carbs, grains and having alcohol and what is just from being ill.

The Whole 30 bans you from weighing yourself for the 30 days so I am keen to know what happens when I step on the scale on July 1st. I am also getting blood work done on the 3rd - but Canada Day is July 1st and I will have a few drinks that day, but not too many as there is work the next day.

So, we shall see what happens. It's good to be over the midway point... but surprisingly not because I am keen to add these foods back into my diet (although I do miss dairy), but because I want to see how it's made a difference to my weight and also my blood work.

Following the Whole 30, my plan is to be mainly "Whole 30" compliant, but add in a few items once in a while but not all the time. I am also thinking that I will stick to mainly paleo with some intermittent fasting thrown in, as I did find that I don't struggle on fast days.

    It could be the "bugs", but it also sounds a lot like low carb "flu", which can be cured by increasing your sodium intake slightly. A cup of broth a day usually does the trick.

    Interesting. It sounds a little bit like South Beach with the elimination of the carbs and sugar.
