Binge and Purge

Wednesday, July 13, 2016

Do not be alarmed. I am not binging and purging on food. emoticon On this weight loss journey I have been focusing on weight and not all of the other stuff that goes with it.

I was buying things that I did not need or even really want. I enjoyed buying things to manage my emotions. emoticon I have been in my house for going on 12 years. That is a lot of time to gather things. I went from a 2 bedroom apartment to a 6 bedroom house. What happens when you have all those rooms to fill? Yep, you get stuff. In my church parish we were the people in need of furniture so everyone and I mean everyone offered items to us. I didn't want to say no, so I pretty much took everything, whether I needed it or not.

My parents came in for a visit a couple of weeks ago and we decided to super clean the house. From this we decided it was time to purge. We have been going through the whole house and getting rid of items that are no longer needed. Old paperwork- gone. Furniture- repurposed or donated. I feel so much better that we have been able to get rid of so much. My emotional and mental health have improved because of this. I have donated my books to the local mental health center where I work. We have a book nook to help aide in recovery. Tons of items have gone to local charity shops. I am keeping up on the cleaning. I can't believe how long it has taken me to make this connection.

Make sure you take care of your mental and emotional health as well as your physical health.

This is so helpful to me as I moved and stuff is still everywhere, I've had sales but I realized some things do not sell and it is okay to give away or donate. Since I do not drive it is more difficult, but I agree clearing out down to what you really need/love is a good thing for your health. i don't know why we keep things, they were not giving us joy. I have to do this alone so it isn't as fun.
