DETOXING ARTICLE

I was thankful for the Detox article I read this morning on the Spark page. There is so much information out there, it's hard to know what to believe. I remember something I was taught in a college nutrition class by a registered dietitian: When someone is giving you diet information, be very careful to ask whether they have something to sell or gain from it. Salesmanship is at the heart of most nutritional information these days. As an aside, my liver is not good, and doctors have not been able to pinpoint any reason, other than my obesity. Hoping Spark People can help me change that, one good decision at a time.

    I almost didn't read this... I was sitting here, thinking, "Oh, God, not another detox post..." LOL (It's a bit like douching - our bodies do a fine job of keeping the internal bits clean all on their own.) Sensible nutrition is just that - SENSIBLE. It's also like headlines: If it sounds like a cure-all or too good to be true, RUN AWAY. We've searched for years, in vain, for ways to lose weight and make money without even trying, when it would've just been easier - and we'd be DONE now - if we'd spent that same time just doing the @#$% thing. :)

    Are you new here? :) I've been using SparkPeople since...2005? Works great - if you work the program and have patience with yourself. No pound comes off on its own and stays off on its own. For me, SparkPeople helps me to focus, track, and not take my eye off the ball. (Yeah, I ignored it for a while - at my peril. The 43 lbs. I lost came back, brought friends, and they're all couch surfing on my hips - I got distracted by quitting smoking and beating the you-know-what out of cancer. I'm back now...) Nice to "meet" you!
