Fighting the Hunger

Tuesday, September 06, 2016

So today it finally happened... the hunger came! For the past five days since I started this blog I have been doing great in staying on course in terms of eating and exercise. I have not suffered from any major hunger pangs so far. But today it finally happened. We had guests over for lunch and I ate a whooping 800 calories during lunch time. But that's OK, I was planning to compensate by eating less the rest of the day. After that I went for exercise: one hour run followed by one hour walk. After my exercise I started to feel really very hungry. I first ate a whole green bell pepper. I was still hungry. I waited a little while. Then I opened a can of sardines and ate the whole can. I was still hungry. Then I ate several pieces of dried beef jerky. Finally, after that last snack the hunger let me go. I am very happy that in this case I did not go off course into some crazy binge eating spree. Rather I handled it by eating first some low calorie vegetables. When that did not work to quench the hunger I went for high protein snacks. I ate just enough for the hunger to subside. In the end, I consumed a reasonable amount of calories (1,342 calories for the day) and satisfied my hunger. I need to do this every time I feel extremely hungry in the future.

    I feel your pain.
I have days I have to say to myself, its time for a meal or a snack.
Usually within an hour of missing a meal, I am reminded by a hunger pang.
Then there are the days that I cant think of anything but food. And the hunger just gnaws at me.
I try water, then protein, then high fiber.
I figure if I am going to consume the calories, at least let it come from foods that will give me the supplements I need.
I do stay away from candy and salty junk snacks.
But even healthy foods at up.
I wish there was a magic cure for hunger pangs.
