In 1.5 months this site must close. It probably stayed open long past its time in terms of growth/bandwidth. What a long journey from Chris's marking 10- minute exercises at work to this point!! A grand achievement that deserves praise: thank you, Chris!!

Years ago team leaders discussed deleting old Spark Pages of seemingly inactive members. It was already apparent that space was getting crowded. Inactive members were still listed on teams, which was difficult for reaching out to members. It was quite the controversy for many reasons.

Some felt one or three months of no site activity should dump members; of course, others pointed out that people do become inactive for valid reasons and return when possible. I've known several such people.

The issues surrounding "inactive" members is only a fraction of how many years of postings expanded the site. Yet some of these people got strength and support from teams when finally able to get back online.

Why do I mention all of the above? Frankly, i have long wondered how the site can continue to grow while remaining free. Drastic change was inevitable. And now change is here. Those if us who really dug into this site, applied change into are lives and made connections.... are richer for having done so.

On this site we have given and received support far beyond lifestyle and weightliss issues. We have cared about and encouraged one another through small and dire life challenges. I have mourned the loss of SP friends who fought valiantly against illness and lost the battle. I have cheered for those who overcame seemingly insurmountable obstacles. For many years I blogged to share articles and share my own battles. Well, some of them and in part rather than detail. I have consoled people who were more stressed over things that are trivial in light of my experiences and been given caring in return when most needed.

So if SP needs to close the site, I do understand and do hope members will reach out beyond SP if needed for tools and information: they are out there.

But as for me? instead of feeling disgruntled, I feel above sense of loss something quite fantastic!!

SP articles, coaches and friends strengthened me through surgery recoveries, losses of loved ones, and more. Tools here enabled me to better tailor habits of all sorts to live a healthier, more enjoyable lifestyle. I joined SP while in very poor health, unsure whether I would live another year or more. Fortunately, I am a survivor. I live each day knowing at its end that even tough days are worth the effort considering the alternative is not having lived the day.

How we live our lives evolves with circumstances and both normal and unexpected changes. Learning to be flexible with change is a component of what constitites this thing called lifeSTYLE.

I urge members to teview their blogs, numbers, favorite articles. Save the ones that are important to you by copying or downloading them to computers or disks.

SP is still open.
This is not the time to wave goodbye and fade away. It is time to be proactive, to be very active on the site, striving for substance.

During these last weeks, I will be more active here than in ages! Hope you feel the same.

SP, coaches, friends... I am so grateful for our time together. Thank you.
