Skipped Pre-diabetes all together...

Friday, March 10, 2017

I always figured I would have time to make changes. I figured that I would go in for my physical, and I would find out my blood sugar was slightly elevated, and I would be told to make diet and exercise changes and then be sent home. I never imagined that a conversation with my mom would change my life so dramatically. Am I being over-dramatic? Possibly. I mean, I just found out that my blood sugar is 433. 433!!! Holy crap woman! What on earth are you doing to yourself??? Seriously now. Ok, so after the breakdown crying jag on my mom's bed, I asked her for some diabetes books. She handed me one of her glucose monitors that she never uses anymore, and a brand new lancing device. She showed me how to use them. Then told me to read up, and get to the dr. Oy. I've been around diabetics my whole life. I just thought I had more time before I joined the ranks (I mean seriously, it runs in our family, I figured it would happen some day no matter what I did). Here's to lifestyle changes when I have no choice any longer.

Hoorah. I got this. emoticon

Sorry to hear about your diabetes and the effects it has on you. I would feel the same way. But you definitely do have a choice. You can get angry and upset and start eating right and moving and make a drastic improvement to your health or you can

You can make many changes that will help. When I first joined SP I started drinking the water and found that even that one small change helped me.

Your numbers are really high but watching your food, tracking your blood sugar etc. will keep the knowledge of how you are doing in front of you. I have had it for several years (not as high as yours). Spark People menu suggestions, recipes and ideas have been a great help to me. Please don't ignore this and don't think you can go back to your old habits because the diabetes can be controlled but will not go away.

You have got it and that's wonderful. You know what you have to do now and can take control and not let
it take control of you. Good luck. Looking forward to healthy reports along the way.
