Phase 2 of the Master Plan!

My Whole30 AIP 30 days was up on Friday. The next phase is the "challenge" phase of the Whole30. Carefully adding foods back into my diet and noticing how my body responds to them. I added eggs on Friday. The process is to add in a "challenge" food on one day, then go back to eating the AIP and note any reactions for the following week. I did notice that I had intestinal cramping for the first time in 30 days, so that made a red flag go up. Shoot! The next time I "challenge" eggs, it will be just the yolks. So I just keep eating my meat/fish, vegetables and fruits and I'll pick another food to challenge on Friday.

For phase 2, I need to work on the fitness component of my healthy lifestyle. I have been unable to push myself to get a nice fitness routine going. So I knew I had to do something about that. I put that out into the universe and all of a sudden the pathway was shown to me. My health insurance site had a special "waive the enrollment fee if you join before March 31st!" "Over 9,500 fitness locations" One of those locations is the gym that my husband joined. I got a postcard from that gym that said "Free 7 day trial and Free session with a personal trainer." So I made the call and I signed up for the plan with my health insurance that this gym accepts. I've had my free session with the personal trainer. They did an assessment so I now know that I am dealing with 38.8% body fat as my starting point here. And my previous nutrition work helped me start this phase at the top of the caution ranges, but out of the high risk range. That was encouraging. I signed up for a 2 day a week/ 3 month class to get some help with setting up a workout. And that will hopefully start soon. They are looking for one more client to fill that class.
So the plan is gym time every other day. I am looking forward to gaining strength and energy in phase 2.

I also set a goal for next April. I want to be 20 pounds lighter. Last year I was able to eliminate 20 pounds with diet and this year adding in a sound fitness routine, I hope to drop another 20. That works out to 1.7 pounds a month. I can do that!

Going over motivation with the trainer at the gym, I discovered what my real motivator is. I want to maintain a lifestyle that keeps me free from medication. As Nancy Reagan said "Just say no to drugs!" Motivation has always been tricky for me. But I realized that the reason I have been able to stick to my plan this time is my desire to stay off medication. And it seems to be helping me stay on track. That motivation will not change. I just need to remember it from time to time.

Now it's back to work. Menu planning, organizing and prepping, I am also going to head to the gym today and continue my search for my healthy fitness routine.

    Glad you are now ready to proceed to the next step. I also did an induction phase in low carb and I am finding that foods I once loved my body no longer tolerates. I hope you will find some of your former favorites soon and be on a path to happy LC living.

    Light does the darkness most fear! It's great to understand how your motivation works and what is the ultimate "why" for you. I think it's gonna become one for me too - I wanna be med free. & I'm sorry to ear about the eggs! Looks like a lenghty process but one I'll take eventually!

    My sister is going through a rough patch lately as she's been diagnosed with mental illness and her doctor is quite pessimistic about living med free when you have mental illness. All the meds they give us are made from chemical found in edible things like plants so why couldn't we live without them if we replace it with something a bit more natural but as effective? I feel it is also a path one needs to travel to understand that a diagnostic is not something that defines you nor is it a monster you need to fight or ignore. And that being med free is altogether another path ones needs to travel to realize that there is a possibility you can live a med free life. Am I wrong? I know I've been taking those med for almost a decade now so I had time to adjust/understand and let the anger go so she'll need to do so as well... and I don't want to rush her... What do you think?

    Wonderful, I am also in the camp of working my body to fitness and adding more nutrients to my diet to control my health for as long as I can without medicines. Best wishes. and Congratulations on being adventurous in going to the gym, I hope it changes your life for the better.

    Great job moving along in to phase 2. I too pull much of my determination from a "Anti-Medication" campaign. For me it is a great motivator. I do feel that medications are sometimes needed--I'd just want to avoid them as long as possible.

    It is pretty cool that as you move into Phase 2--the gym membership fell into your lap. 20 lbs is a great, reachable goal!

    Aw, I'm sorry to hear about the eggs, Nancy... I know how much you were looking forward to reintroducing them. Hopefully the yolks will go better.

    Despite the eggs, you have one amazing and well thought-out plan! I'm so looking forward to seeing where you are at in a few months!
