quiet reflection

This weekend I had BIG plans for a very productive four days.

Plan A was to spring clean and to complete two sections of my literature review for my research project.

I have done neither.

Friday, I almost slept all day. Didn't think too much about it except 'perhaps I needed it' and said to myself I can still do Plan A in three days.

Saturday, was the usual menu plan and shopping list preparation, and then shopping. Then I whittled away the afternoon talking to my husband, planted 35 spring onions to grow greens, and started the laundry. All good things, but not part of Plan A.

Now it is Sunday afternoon. I have spent the morning reflecting and asking myself the question as to why I have not implemented Plan A. The answer:

- I was/am worn out from my mind being like a hamster in a wheel, going over and over some unresolved issues
- Perhaps I didn't want to spend my weekend on Plan A
- Procrastination
- Unrealistic plan

Rather than staying stuck, I went browsing with purpose on SparkPeople and the wider internet. Note: I did ask myself whether I was continuing to procrastinate or whether it was a real effort to get going again. Answer, I am truly seeking a way to get to a better place than I am.

I found www.medium.com/th
It was a long read, but seemingly a very practical approach. I'm going to give it a go.

For the upcoming break between BLC33 and BLC34, I though I would actually take a break. But recognising that I will be getting busy with my research project and 'taking caring of myself' would probably go to the lowest rung on the ladder, I looked for some small things that I could implement without being a project in of themselves.

I found and have signed up for the "Small Successes 30-Day Challenge" see: www.sparkpeople.c
I have clicked the button to get started - Day 1 complete. Doesn't feel like much, but perhaps it is the prompt to come back to the site and do something small is all that I need.

Continuing with the small, daily, and commitment theme, I have signed up for the "SPARKguy Small Goals Commitment Challenge", see: www.sparkpeople.c

I think I need small things that I can do every day, a bit like drinking my 8 glasses of water. It is not just to stay on track from a health point of view, but to move forward on my project and at work.

So onto Plan B:

- Spring cleaning is going to be limited to stripping the bed for washing and airing
- Get going on my research project by using the Pomodoro technique. See www.cirillocompan
and www.qz.com/752614
. I used to do this to study for my exams, and it worked well. So now I am returning to it to structure my time while writing my literature review.

Following Plan B, is Plan D - 'D'aily:
- Ride my bike to uni
- Pomodoro my research time
- Breaks between Pomodoro's to be used for me time, e.g. Sparkpeopling :)

Hi, Jacqueline! I have been enjoying your posts and also, thank you so much for the Easter greetings! Happy Easter to you as well....

I didn't click on the link, but I think you joined Sparkguy's mini-challenge. I did that as well about a week ago and have had some fun with it since some other Sparkfriends did as well. I think it is a great thing, and I can already tell a difference in my mental attitude.
