I realized I never posted anything from my Nov. 19th appointment with the new cardiologist. She wants to do the ablation, but I'm not sure. She gave me a few options from "do nothing and see if it happens again" to "immediately schedule an ablation". I told her my insurance rolls over Jan 1 and I have a crazy high deductible so anything I do will have to wait until the new year. She agreed to that, said waiting was fine since this isn't life threatening. I've had some time to think now, and I'm leaning towards the do nothing option. She said she would have me carry medicine in case it happens again if I chose that route, but it wouldn't be her first choice. I think I'm going to try that anyway, and possible schedule the procedure for sometime this summer when I'm off work anyway. That gives me 6 months to make a final decision. I have an appointment for a CT scan on Jan 10th that will confirm the diagnosis and from there I can make decisions. She said there are a few possible causes and that even though she thinks it is SVTs, the symptoms were unusual. It actually acted like another issue so she wants to be sure. It sounds like the treatment options are the same though. So... I'll know more after the 10th I guess.

I saw her the 19th (right before Thanksgiving) and on Dec. 3 (right after Thanksgiving) I joined a gym. I really don't like the gym, but I've been going faithfully anyway. I haven't lost any weight, I ended the month at the same weight I started, but it's still building a better habit and I can feel a difference. I made 20 minutes on the eliptical the other day, I rode 5 miles on the exercise bike the day before, and yesterday I did day one of a Couch to 5K program with 6 one minute running intervals. I saw a personal trainer at my mom's gym (my gym doesn't offer that service) and she walked me through proper form on various machines, showed me an assisted squat with an exercise ball that I really like, and gave me a suggested workout routine with appropriate weights. I find the gym boring, but I'm excited to have a plan now instead of just walking in clueless.

Next step is to work on food choices. I need to get more protein b/c I don't eat a lot of meat. I need to work on freggies b/c I don't eat a lot of that either. Mostly I eat carbs and sugar. Pasta and bread and potatoes. Sweets and salty and crunchy. These are the things I find myself pulled to over and over. I'm not giving them up because I've tried that before and it never works. Instead, I need to find moderation and mix in freggies every meal and maybe make more use of beans and nuts as protein sources. I really don't like a hunk of meat as a meal. I'd rather have shredded chicken or ground beef in something like chili or a casserole of some kind. I need to stop trying to "eat right" and figure out what's right for me. That's never going to be "a meat and 2 veggies" and I need to accept that as a given and work from there.

I hope everyone's new year is starting off well.

Good grief, I missed all this! My blog subs are not coming thru!

I am so sorry you have all this going on! I get what you are saying - and I think you are making great decisions. I don't jump into medical decisions either. I just need a moment to think it thru. I have a physical next week and I am totally freaked out about it.

You need to make health decisions that work for you, and I think you are a star for joining a gym in December and getting started on better health during the holiday season. emoticon emoticon

I really hope your heath concerns are resolved sooner than later. It's always unsettling when one's body doesn't behave as it should. This: " I need to stop trying to "eat right" and figure out what's right for me." Amen!

I am going to have to look up what Ablation is. And sometimes what helps me is to trading food, If I eat this I can have that. Example: If I eat that cup of green beans first I can have a couple of chips. If I want pasta for supper, I will not eat that sandwich for lunch. And there is always Hamb. ground chicken, or ground turkey steaks, all that great flavor and NO BUN, add a veggies salad and you have a total meal. That is helping me.

You're not alone in your concerns about ablation. It's not a fix and you could have to still have another round. The quality of life, how well you can get around, is a good guide. Getting stronger will help. Good luck.
