United Airlines and Covid

Saturday, April 17, 2021

Last year on the day we shut down I was due to fly somewhere (I dont even remember where now) and it cancelled and I didnt travel by air for most of the year. I didnt go anywhere except for the store and now I have been on 6 trips since December, some of them when we had strict travel restrictions and no one asked me to complete a Covid tracking questionnaire. Today I fly to Chicago and United had me fill out a Covid tracking form. I am happy to fill this form out but where was this form when we were in lockdown? I think its a joke as most of the questions say its optional. I wish we could have been more serious about travel.

On my last two flights which were on Southwest the flight attendants were upfront about it. Wear your mask, wear it right or you will be met by federal Marshalls when we land. No nonsense. Everyone complied. They did stop the policy of having the middle seat empty so we will see what happens today on United.

Even with my vaccine, I worry about being so close to others. I read that by exercising a minimum of 22 minutes a day you were improving your chances of a better response to Covid if you caught it. I will double mask and hope for the best. I do worry more about these longer flights. The hotels dont have daily room service so you haver to make your own bed which is fine. I ask for extra towels and dont have to have anyone in the room.

Well enough of the doom and gloom. I will have a good week and be done with it and then I dont have to go anywhere for a bit. Yea. Oh and it might snow in Chicago this week!!! Yikes.

Have a good day everyone.

I'm with you. Scary, confusing times. Welcome to Chicago! Beautiful day today but yes, I heard the dreaded S word. Like we always say here, if you don't like the weather here, wait five minutes.

A few years ago, my kids and I met for a running tour through the downtown area, in March. It started out freezing cold, then sleet, then rain, by the end of the four miles, sunny and a little warmer. We all had a good laugh.

    Safe travels!!

I share your concerns. Three weeks ago, I flew Southwest. The plane was at full capacity, including the middle seats. To add another level of covid exposure risk, the flight attendants came around with snacks for everyone and most passengers pulled off their masks for a half hour or more. I am fully vaccinated; I could not recommend flying under these circumstances to others. Wishing you safe travels.
