Really good ideas! Thanks for sharing. I usually mash up the banana with a tad of almond milk and mold some ice cream popsout of them...Taste really good when the weather is hot in Fla.

The ideas all sound great! I love the cheese and bacon ideas. Does the lowfat cheese taste as good? I recently discovered how eating cheese can totally throw off my calories for the day. I'm lactose intolerant, so I don't eat much cheese, but I love it on occasion, like brie and gouda. (especially bread stuffed with brie, yum!) I love bacon and I miss eating it, I had not thought to try turkey bacon, will give it a try!

The banana idea I love! I usually break the banana into 1 inch pieces, put it in a baggy and freeze it to use in my shakes. That way my shakes are colder, creamier and I can use however much I want! And the banana does not turn brown when you seal it in the baggy and put it immediately into the freezer!

Hi Wildflowerr's LIVE-IT's ....I have been on Sparkpeople off and on over the last few years but I want to stop the yo yo dieting and gaining weight as I am getting older. I really want to make lifestyle changes that I can live with and are sustainable over the long run. I could use your help and encouragement to help keep me accountable, and ultimately, reach my goal weight. Any helpful suggestions and tips for the journey are appreciated.....and if anyone has a sweet tooth like me, I would appreciate any helpful ideas on lower calorie versions that I can use that would help......thanks for listening!

Hello, I'm Irene. I follow Jesus which means going forward not backwards. I have been on SparkPeople page over 3 years but have gained 20 pounds rather than lose. I am an emotional eater and use food to appease my moods. I recently went to my first Overeaters Annonymous meeting and feel a new hope. My Higher Power of course is Jesus Christ. I do believe I can do all things through Jesus Christ who strengthens me. I am trying the approach that everyday is the first day of my diet.

Hey! My name is Lana, and I'm new to the team! I am on my own weight loss journey for my own reasons, and so far I've lost 21 pounds and I am absolutely STOKED and motivated to make it 41! My doctor set my weightloss goal at 41 pounds total, saying this would be a "very healthy" weight for me, however, that will put my weight at 160, and I've weighed less than that before and felt I was still a little too pudgy. But I'm taking this one step at a time, and once I get to my initial goal, I will decide whether I should maintain or continue losing! It was very strongly recommended that I join this group by TLMASSIE, who is my aunt, and AIMEEM77, who is my cousin (and who recently dropped a whopping 100 pounds, sending my motivation through the roof! Congratulations once again Aimee, btw!). Anyways, I was told that this is a WONDERFUL, sweet, and supportive group, and that is just what I need! I have a bit of a problem logging my fitness minutes, because most of my workouts are done either using Wii Fit or EA Active on the Wii, and most of the cardio/strength training I do on there doesn't seem to be preloaded on there. I'm not the most patient person in the world, so I kind of just skip the logging of the fitness, and I'm also very lazy on the nutrition logging front...which is something I really plan to work on and improve! So, just remember: sometimes if my stats aren't showing my workouts/nutrition, it doesn't mean I'm not working out or making healthy choices LOL. Maybe some of you on here could toss me some advice on that? Anyways, I am happy to be a part of this group, and looking forward to sharing my goals and getting/giving inspiration to/from all of you, especially with real blood connections with some of the members behind the keyboards! Nice to meet all of you! Let's Live~it!

Had to laugh at your Italian mom and servings per pasta box comment. My MIL is Italian and my boys always ask her to make her meatballs when she comes here. She uses 4 pounds of meat and said that used to feed her family of 4 plus ONE (1!!!) meal of leftovers. We ate that 4 pounds of meatballs for months!

Also, I made 2 pounds of spaghetti for 8 of us and she about fell over. Said she used to make one pound of spaghetti just for my husband! CRAZY!

LOVE the advice. I bring 2 hardboiled egg whites and frigo light string cheese to work every morning (less than 100 calories and LOTS of protein) with a fruit or a half cup of frozen blueberries (YUM). For lunch, I eat a low fat-high protein PLUS a serving of whole grain macaroni salad (egg whites, half a "packet" of tuna, whole weat elbow or rotini, fat free italian dressing, pepper, and parm for taste). Also high protein. It gives me the energy and fullness to work all day without feeling like i'm starving myself. I also keep greek yogurt stocked in the work fridge and focus on at least 4 veggies and at least 2 fruits every day. It's helping me learn better eating habbits. I didn't even gain weight over Easter- even after 'straying.' This is the first diet I've ever been on that doesn't feel like a diet. It feels like I'm getting my life back, and man is that a Blessing!!

Do you all know about the "Daily Calorie Differential", it tells you your current BMI, amount of calories to maintain that, the calories you ate, the calories you lost in your workout, and at the bottom is calorie differential, anotherwards if you are - (minus) the calories you burned for that day total....This is very interesting information

*Just a few suggestions for eating healthier and keeping the calories, fats, and carbs down.*

Most of us LOVE cheese! emoticon
If you can switch to Fat Free,
If you can't at least try 2%.

Here is a list of the calories:
1/4 cup reg shredded cheddar: 110 calories
1/4 cup 2% shredded cheddar: 80 calories
1/4 cup Fat Free Shredded cheddar: 45 calories

emoticon If you ate berries, (Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries)rather than raisins or grapes you would save some calories there.

Less eating out, and or pre-made foods. ie panera Boston Market, TGIFriday's etc.

What you can do if you know you are going to eat out, look online for the nutrition facts for the foods they serve! Go in there with your guns loaded!!!

If you cut out a few calories, fat and carbs here and there, you can eat more for the entire day! Fresh foods, fruits and veggies are so good for our bodies they are our fuel, plus water of course. You will not only lose weight, you will feel like you have more energy too! All the processed foods are slowly killing our bodies.
Try to eat no LESS than 1100 calories A day. And no more than 1300. Just make it GOOD calories, not empty ones...and spread it out through out the day. It helps to keep our metabolism going strong!

Additional Info added 2/5/2010:


I found that when I eat dinner out, the safest thing to order is a petite sirloin, and broccoli, or a plain baked sweet potato.
Bread and rice are my Enemy now! I LOVE them both! But I have had to learn to go w/out, or to have a 1/2 serving only, if I really feel I can not go w/out it at that particular meal!
Pasta is way out there as well. AND boy I come from a family of pasta heads, having an Italian Mom!
I try to buy Ronzoni Healthy Harvest (whole grain)AND the most important thing is to only have the actual portion SIZE! Did you know that there are 8 servings in a one pound box of pasta? I almost fell out when I read that! We might have gotten four out of a box at my house b4!
