Hi Spanky161,

Don't be upset with your move to New Hampshire - you may love it! I have an older nephew who grew up in Southern California - warm weather, busy cities, he was an executive with a high paying job, lived in a beautiful 2 million dollar house. Gave it all up!! Couldn't stand the rat race any more and he, his wife and their young daughter moved to New Hampshire and they opened a convenience store/gas station in a small town. She's Canadian so she was used to snow and cold weather. He and his little daughter were not. They have lived in N.H. for a few years now and absolutely love the slower life. Neither of them miss Southern California nor the city life and never regretted the move except missing family.

I myself moved to a rural area 10 years ago. I admit it did take me awhile to get used to it. I was used to malls, restaurants, movies, entertainment. I thought driving 20 minutes to one of these too far. Here, our nearest mall is 1 hour away. There is nothing up here and mom and pop diners all closed at 3:00 p.m. and deli's close by 7:00 pm including gas stations. Even our police station is not open over the weekends! I never heard of a police station closing for the weekend, although they do have an emergency number on the door, and the police do patrol. Even though you learn to compromise, I wouldn't trade it for a more populated area. Hopefully, you will feel the same. You may just need to make adjustments.

Wishing you much success in your move and marriage,
L

The best advice I can give you is to take it slow.

Look at your weight loss in 5lb increments. Aim for the first five then the next...

Do the same with other habits and goal syou want to achieve. If you want to drink 8 glasses of water a day and now you barely drink 1. Aim for 2 or 3 glasses the first week and see how you do. Track your progress. When you are comfortable and used to having 2 to 3 glasses a day then add on one more. Before you know it you will be at 6 to 8 glasses and liking it. Take it slow.

You can do the same with adding in fruits and veggies and other healthy habits.

Do the same with exercise. This week every morning get up and do 5 to ten minutes of walking or some other exercise. When this is comfortable then add in 1 or 2 more minutes..........

This is not a race this is the rest of your wonderful life. Take it slow. Build on all of these habits and you will see how they begin to feel natural and what it does for your mind and health.

Wishing you much success!!!

Welcome, Cindy! It sounds as if you have the right attitude and approach to achieving a healthy lifestyle. I found as I started to lose even a little weight that I became less slug-like - more energy and interest in being outdoors walking and gardening for the spring.
You'll find SP and the EE team a great resource of info and support. Good luck!

Hi Cindy,

I can well identify with laziness and procrastination. Although I prefer to call it "thinking of a better way to do......". By the time I figure out the best way to do whatever I've been "thinking" of doing, it's too late to start whatever I've been "thinking" of doing! I repeat the process the next day, after all, perhaps I can come up with a better idea then I did yesterday! Eventually everything gets done, but it could have gotten done with a lot less "thinking" effort.

Good Luck to you!

Hello everyone,
My name is Cindy and i live in CT. I have struggled with my weight for 20 years now since the birth of my first child. I havent been able to get it right and sadly i have tried everything out there, you name it i tried it. However, I never put it all together in the right combination.
My biggest obsticale has always been myself. I became terminally lazy when i got heavy and found it very easy to give up on anything that i was trying. I fought with myself for years never liking whjo i saw in the mirror. After spending many months soul searching i think that i have a better understanding of who i am ans want to be. Now that I have finally gotten most of the pieces together and i think i can get it right this time. With SP i can see it working. being able to post my thoughts and get answers to questions (not from skinny trainers) but from real people going through it too. I have begun to work on the issues (with the help of a therapist) that cause me to give up and i am tracking my food and workouts here.
I have a real shot at finally reaching my goals!
If there is any advice that you can impart i would love to hear it.
Thank you for listening to me and for any posts responding to this message.

Cindy
