Sounds promising. I found the 2nd and 3rd injection really helped. But of course they are not permanent. Hope they continue to give you the relief you need.

Thanks for sharing, LIVINGLOVINLIFE. I had good results from the spinal for about 4-5 days, then not so much. Two weeks after the spinal, I had an injection in my hip, or at least where the joint used to be. LOL

That was April 28. Doctor told me it might take a few days for it to kick in. In fact, they said it might hurt worse for awhile. They weren't wrong. Had a bad day yesterday, but I managed 18 holes of golf.

Been icing my hip and back, alternating liquid Advil and Tylenol. Hoping for a better day today. I'm pretty stoked, though, that I had some relief and, who knows? I may get more. Doctor said we could do the injections about every three months and, hopefully, that will keep me going until I have the hip replacement.

I had Epidural injections for several years! remember the first time I went in. I could not even walk straight. I was dragging my left leg. Going from sitting to standing was unbearable. I felt better after that first shot. But I still had pain so I went back for a second. WOW it was like poof, my pain was really almost gone. I waited about 8 months before I had another one. Then I did great for about a year. Funny though I don't have that excruciating pain any more. It went away after my L4L5 compression fractures. I had intractable pain for about 2months after the fracture. But now it is minimal. But I can only stand in place or walk for short distances before I have to sit down. Feels like my whole body is crushing down on my L/S spine. feel like I have to sit down or I will fall down. But not really painful. I hope you get good relief from the shots. They allowed me to continue to work until I retired.

Scheduled to have my first one ever 4/16. Can't wait because my pain has increased and it's hard to get relief. Stenosis, scoliosis, spondylolisthesis and herniated L4/L5. Diabetic with one kidney, so can't take a lot of NSAIDs.

I had them many many years ago. I was in an automobile accident and have had multiple spinal surgeries including 2 spinal fusions in addition to all sorts of other procedures. The epidural injections work for some folks and unfortunately not so much for others. They did help with my pain for a few months but I know of other folks that have had them and it helped them a great deal.

GOOD form of pain relief, and NOT medications .............. Accupuncture!

It works wonderfully for most people. I have had this for a number of conditions - initially for my Benign Essential Tremors, because I can't have medication for it because of asthma, and the appropriate medication could prove fateful. The Dr who did the Acupuncture also used to put needles in for the gunkiness associated with an asthma attack, stress, spinal and hip pain, and headaches. I had excellent responses to all.

I am suppose to start them soon. But honestly from what I am reading they are only a short term fix. I have 3 building disc in my neck and 3 degenerative disc in my lower back.

If anyone has any suggestions on pain relief please message me. Already taking tramadol, gabapentin, methocarbonol, meloxicam. Sorry for the spelling.

Waiting to see what the doctors do next.

Never give up, never surrender. You are important too.

It will be interesting to see what the new Chiropractor does then.

The Osteopath I went to used to do that, but he also did leg lengthening (it wasn't noticeable that they were uneven) and massage. That massage came in extremely handy when I was there one day. I got bad cramp in my foot so he did a wonderful massage. My other foot promptly went out in sympathy, so I lay there getting BOTH feet massages, and ohhhh, what a relief from the pain, and pure bliss 'relaxing' moment - LOL!

I only stopped going to him when our Accident Compensation Corporation sent me to a Physiotherapist after my car accident. I had a very long (months) regular input from her, and a lot of what she did, the Osteopath also did, so I figured I would stop the Osteopath (cost) and go to the Physio for free.

I'm glad that you got approved. I had to google to see what that technique involved. I hope that you get a good response from it.

Prednisone is a medication that you NEED to take as prescribed. You start high and work down, not the other way round.

I hope that he can too. My hip pain was mostly because of my weak lower back so I was given core strength exercises to do. It helped a lot.

WOW - I am totally gobsmacked!!! Here we don't have to run back and forth amongst Pharmacies - they are a 'one-stop shop' unless they have run out, in which case they will get it from the one over the road, to be replaced.

I hope that the anti-inflammatories do the trick.

I have used Tramadol; Sevredol (morphine) and anti-inflammatories, and Codeine w/Paracetamol (equivalent of Tylenol). The Codeine and Paracetamol together work really well most of the time.

Aleve (Naproxen) is generally only for mild to moderate pain.

Another pain relief worth considering is Acupuncture. That usually has very good results for most people.

I have never had Epidural injections.

Have you tried a TENS Unit?

(Copy/Paste from Mayo Clinic Store)
TENS units rent for $30
per month. Patients can
purchase the unit for $150.
TENS may be covered by
Medicare with a Certificate
of Medical Necessity

A friend on SP had something like that (but not a TENS unit and much smaller) implanted around her spine. Initially she wore it externally as a trial and it proved effective. Her Insurance covered the cost.

I've already had Gabapentin and honestly can't tell when I take it or when I don't. It's very effective for some people though.

Have you asked about Gabapentin? Only thing is, it needs to be taken twice or three times a day for it to be effective. It doesn't really work just taking one now and then.

Oxycodone. It works for pain but I don't like the side effects. I honestly cannot imagine how anyone gets addicted to the stuff.

What pain meds do you take that makes you feel sick?

Hopefully the pain won't become too frequent any time soon.

I'm almost 5 months out of the last series and so far, so good. I had to take pain med Wednesday night and it made me sick for two days. I got a little activity in yesterday and a bit today, and am hoping to feel normal by tomorrow. Whatever normal is now.
