I’ve had a great holiday, did well eating out and exercised a lot. Enjoyed one or two sweet things a day, but well within a vacation allowance. I won’t eat any dessert stuff today! ..going back home. Fun to vacation, but good to go back too!

Allowing myself to binge on cherries while they are cheap. I don't see myself going on to another food after the season is over. I've learned my lessons with most of the others and they don't provide enough nutrients or pleasure to justify them anymore.

Let's ponder some ways to stay in touch.

The annoying thing is I feel full often but not satisfied. I could eat much more than I do, though I would be uncomfortable. But for awhile, I actually preferred that feeling. I think I might pay the extra money for some consultations. I don't have enough wrong with me to qualify for any real testing through my health plan. I am wondering if this possibly has something to do with my gut biome. I have a good ratio of good to bad because I have few of the bad ones, but only about a third of the good ones. I wonder if I had more before and they were eating things up so that I felt real hunger! I keep saying I"m going to quit thinking about it all and, but now that I know what I know about my chemistry, it seems irrational not to follow up some.

Or maybe it's just plain boredom or latent insecurity. Those have been harder to deal with for me than adjusting my eating! But I didn't have the same fullness/desire problem years ago and I wasn't any more excited about my life. I was even more enmeshed because even though I wasn't bingeing, I would sometimes spend nearly the whole weekend going back and forth between Spark and another site writing on the topic. That's just another form of obsession. Being involved in the Shakespeare stuff has helped, and it is compelling, but I don't feel it has solved all my problems. I still have to work at it and draw myself away from the "non-nutritive" online activities and such. I don't even want to tell you how much time I've played online solitaire since I got back. My father was a solitaire addict for sure. I used to be mystified by him, but now, here I am. Oy vey.

By the way, I feel full on 1300 calories anymore.

I hit a new weight-loss number today, but am not thinking about it too much. Weight loss can trigger anxiety in me (go figure!).

Not particularly productive but even writing here is better than what I was doing.

I wrote a first blog about my results from the ZOE project I am participating in whereby my blood and bowel were analyzed for blood sugar, fat clearing, and microbiome content. It confirms what I've been doing and gives me some ways to refine my plan. It doesn't solve a sticky problem I've had, but I'm not sure anything can. Just might be an issue of aging.

I've gotten rather overfull today but because I am using the program for four weeks and thus recording my food, I do know that I've eaten around 1500 calories, so I'm calling myself BF. It just doesn't seem that I should feel so full on that many calories; that is what some calculators say I should eat to maintain my weight when I am sedentary. I hardly went outside since officially I am supposed to be quarantining, and I didn't do any indoor workout. But I think I will go out in the early morning to walk some trails near my house. Even if I am carrying some virus, which is very unlikely, I can't spread it in the open air and staying clear of others.

Got two more full days on my trip. Haven't binged. Been traveling with another person, which is a bit stressful for me. We split up for a bit today and I felt such an urge to go get food, not binge food, but something bready, and just chomp away. Didn't. Boy, these urges can hang on.

Hey all...so day 4 Binge free and working day 5...however, I need to adjust my goals too. I know binge eating has been so destructive to my weight loss goals and has been affecting me in the last months that has not only not let me to meet my ultimate goal weight, but has also made me gain some weight back. I'm now realizing that with the program I follow (and coach for) I should be in fat burn by my 4th day, but I know I am not because although I haven't binged, but I am not 100% on my program; I need to change this; so I need to not only avoid binging but also need to stick to my program 100%...so far so good for today.

I would tend to do the same thing, PD. I think it was because I got some social needs met during the event and did not actually feel that hungry. But then there would be the dopamine let down after the event was over, or so I am guessing, and I'd want those hyperpalatable foods. I still eat some after events now but nothing like the old days. I can't let myself get too freaked about it. Guilt can sometimes make the behavior more likely to happen because down deep, it feels like penance has been paid so we can sin again! But no matter what the cause, simply holding out is the best bet for me. It forces me to find SOME alternative, even if that falls short, too. It feels weird at the time and better later, unlike eating compulsively which stops the uncomfortable urge in the moment but feels discomfiting later.

I got my negative result covid test so now am free to roam- with a 90% chance of heavy rain. There is actually blue sky out now so I will have my coffee and get out into Hyde Park. I actually need to do some shopping for my costume, but the shops aren't open yet.

Oola - In my past I had always been the same way - during an event I would be on target with food because I never wanted anyone to see me eat what I wasn't supposed to - but agterwards I would binge becasue the event triggered all the foods I would crave...rarely do I do that anymore thankfully.

Day 3 done and working on the 4th

I have not posted here for a few days...just sick and tired of me and food.
I'm binge free.
Jol, for me its usually AFTER the party that I get into the food...while at the event I don't touch anything sweet or high caloric...."still crazy after all these years....."

I feel ya, Jol1. I have so rarely felt I ate at social events similarly to how I eat at home in terms of quantity or ratio. I don't like feeling that I am dependent on always having to eat my own food in order to feel reasonable. But there are so many cues outside of home to overeat, from the kinds of foods offered to the celebratory environment. I keep trying to make the eating times I can control as close to my ideal as possible so that when I can't get what I'm used to, I feel I have some leeway.

It turned out that most places, even groceries, were not open later today becaude it's Sunday. Even the trains didn't start when I thought and I had a small panic about possibly having to hire a taxi, but found out I would be only 15 or 20 minutes late. I guessed that they would still accept me and they did. It was a lot more confusing to find the correct platforms and such but I latched on to a young woman each time who just happened to be going the same way I was. Not as much of a coincidence as it might sound because the trains were running in my vicinity. I wish I had thought to ask for hard copy maps from reception or even to buy larger fold-out ones. Tryig to get my bearings in a such a huge city on phone or laptop screens just isn't that same.

I was supposed to go back to my hotel asap but needed to get some food. A little Middle Eastern grocery was open. It may have been kismet because they had some decent canned legume dishes to round out my quarantine. I had thought a bigger grocery with more complete packaged meals would be open, but I feel I've avoided the more seductive foods for one more day. I'm not a purist vegan but do prefer to have animal foods rarely, and don't like the emphasis on either bread or pasta or both so common. It really narrows the choices. I get tired of falafel, one of the few legume-based dishes available at restaurant, and the lack of protein in the vegetairan choices. Most of the tofu dishes at Chinese restaurants were also mixed with meat. It's the way of the world. I do not want to let a pity party well up. I am not starving and I am eating decently tasty foods. My big indulgence was more of these giant dried figs which I plump up in hot water. I am going to a local's tomorrow night and will stretch my choices there.

Finished Day 19!! Working on Day 20

Yesterday, went to the BBQ and overate, but actually less than everyone else. Experienced a little weird feeling about having desserts and even some thoughts of wanting to really binge, but I didn't. So I'll take my higher calorie day and move on. I do like to punish myself sometimes for not having been more "perfect". But in the end, I did pretty well, just not on par with what I do when I'm not eating out. It was a celebration after all and not an everyday occurrence!

Welcome, Punkerdoodle! So glad to meet you. Your history is impressive. Looking forward to being of support.

Oaxaca, it might be interesting to know that in some spiritual circles, that state of feeling free from the self is aspired to, though not for overeating! But I suspect it's just more like habit, like when you've been driving on a freeway for several minutes and you realize you haven't noticed being aware of driving. Or maybe that IS dissociation, too.

Well, I've been in London since around 5 am PST Tuesday. Not buying a lot of food for quarantining can sure help not binging. Theoretically I could get more, but it would be quite a hassle for either me or the sweet young woman helping me, so if I had eaten a lot of what I have early on, I would have been weeping later! As it is, I will likely still have a little left over by the time I am released, pending getting a negative Covid test result Sunday night after a Sunday morning test. Then from Monday on I can wander as much as I want. (For those who don't know, I am here to play the part of the Nurse in a fundraising production of Romeo and Juliet at a park on Memorial Day, which is Spring Bank Holiday in Britain.) I really don't need that much food these days. I brought a few packages of cooked beans, one of rice, a few protein bars- SO unusual for me-, and was allowed to shop when I arrived before settling in, so I added a couple of restaurant dishes and a few freggies. My friend brought a few extras on Thursday. There is a little fridge in the room; microwaves are not standard, but I've McGyvered a way to warm things up with the electric tea kettle. It's only one more day.

Here's something that's amusing to me: The closet has a section above the part for hanging clothes that is much like the upper reaches of kitchen cabinets where way in the past I would "hide" binge snack foods. WAY in the past. Yet here, I would find my eyes sometimes drawn to that shelf as if there might be a hidden bag of crunchy cheese puffs up there, despite the fact that I knew I hadn't bought anything like that. An ancient memory of reward, I guess. I've shared that that happens sometimes at home with high cabinets or the top of the fridge, where because I have such a small kitchen, I keep a fair amount of supplies, but mostly herbs and pasta, nothing that can be eaten on the spot. But lizard brain still wishes sometimes.

Binge eating does sabotage good efforts!

Biggest advice I have is to go for the percentages over time of being Binge Free and don't try to be perfect!

Hey all - Iv'e been in this group awhile but haven't been on comuter much but I just found this forum and would like to participate...a bit about me, I had lost about 110 pounds and keeping it off but some weight is creeping up again. My food durng the day is good, but I also have an issue durring the nights especially since I work night shifts (although get to sleep some) Nonetheless, I was hoping to loose an additional 12 pounds, but alas with my binge eating, I now want to relose the bit of weight gain plus the extra 12 so actually have about 30 to loose.

I am starting day 1 today!!
