Had a lovely visit to MB this summer. Great visits with relatives and so nice to cuddle my great nephew who was only 3 weeks old. Ohhhh he is so beautiful and such a good baby.

Even took in an evening of racing which was fantastic and even more so because our filly was running in Edmonton and got a second. Assiniboia Downs is a very nice facility, actually we in Alberta are jealous!!

Weather was wonderful and we even took in some fishing at Lake of the Prairies.

Have a great week everyone.

Mugsy, I've not been to Dauphin but my bro has. I think he and his wife used to go there every year for some festival, being Ukranian they sure enjoyed it. Unfortunately his wife passed so he didn't go last year.

We live east of Strathmore which is east of Calgary. When you drive to Calgary on the No 1 highway, you go right past our place!! I moved here in 1969 and have gone home to Portage la Prairie every year, some years twice.

Gardening is one of my happy things to do.

Have a great day Manitobans.

It's cooler today but we are to have temps in the 20's next week so look for it Manitobans!! Wish we were going to be here to enjoy it. DH has crop hail damage to assess in Valley View - Grand Prairie area. I am going to go with him again. (We were there in June) Will be taking my camera to take those beautiful fall pictures. Hi Bonnie!!

It is getting a tad cool at night here so winter is definitely on its way. I'm not much for the cold and especially not this year as we really didn't have a summer. Firsty the weather did't co-operate and secondly we did huge renos in the house and yard. Thankfully we are almost at the end, just the sun room off the master bedroom to finish and that about wraps it.

Hoping we don't have the cold, snowy winter that is predicted but if that happens we have no control so I'm just going to deal with whatever arrives in the best way I know how. Maybe a longer vacation in Mexico and/or Arizona?? Who knows but the most important thing is our health so that is what I shall concentrate on instead of how cold it is or isn't.

Have a great day everyone.

I too have wandered from MB but have family near P la P. I moved to Alberta in January 1969, lived in Calgary for a number of years, got married, had children, divorced, lived a single mom life for 13 years then married a rancher and now live near Strathmore. Recently retired so am getting used to another change of lifestyle. I worked in law offices since the early 80's, both in Calgary and Strathmore and loved it.

I am learning to live a healthier lifestyle by exercising more and eating better. Am prediabetic and don't want to push myself over the edge. I am addicted to sugar, once I start there is no stopping me. Since joining Sparkpeople in June I have been able to stay away from sweets. I think the nutrition tracking is the best part of SP. I was surprised to see that I am consistently low on calcium and fibre and high on cholesterol foods so have been working on those 3 areas for now and once I get that in order I will start on some other area. So far I have lost 13 lbs but we all know the first 10 are easy!! I am half way to my goal and then maintenance which in the past has always evaded me! But NOT THIS TIME. This time I am going to get it off and keep it off.

Hope everyone had a nice long weekend.

Welcome Spascal! Great question. I'm a Manitoba girl who loves to travel but has stayed in the province. I grew up a rural farm girl and am now a Winnipegger...would love to hear from others? Where are you all?

Let's get active on our boards this fall, folks! Tell us a bit about yourselves and let's support one another!

I wonder how many of us there are in our fair province. I am a prairie child who has wandered far and away...but always, there is something that calls me back home. Hope all of you are doing well. I am so glad to have found Sparkpeople!

Sorry to see no one is posting :(

It's too bad. It would be nice to have support from people near by.

Going to take my leave. Take care everyone.

Sorry friends, but I am just too swamped to organize a get-together for the Manitoba Members right now. June is such a busy time for those of us in the school system, as well as for our own children. I should have known better!

If someone else has more time to plan a meeting, by all means go ahead with it!

Hope you are all well...chat with you in two weeks time!

Wow! What happened to the weekend? Didn't it just get here?

20 more work days and then school is out for summer. I'll be 1/2 time next year, if I return. Formal offer isn't on the table yet. They wanted me full time, but I'm supposed to be retired. I said one more year, 1/2 time, and I'm in.

Fuelled up the car tonight; lunch is made for tomorrow… now I just have to get my sorry arse to bed!!

Have a great week, everyone!

Thank you for all the words of encouragement! Yes, I completed my first 5k of the year with my young daughter on Saturday. I woke up feeling quite sluggish and knew immediately it was going to be a tough run. That, combined with the heat and too much water sloshing in my stomach, and it was really hard going. My poor daughter could have ran the whole way, but I'm afraid I held her back. However, we still finished the 5k in 40 minutes, so it could have been much worse. We are running another one in a few weeks, and I will have to train harder to improve my performance. That's all I ever ask of myself - that I improve my ability to do the task, so I will keep that as a goal. And also remember that everyone has tough days.

I am paying a lot of attention to my food this week. Felt great last week when I was clean eating and detoxing from sugar. Then on the weekend I attended two birthday parties where I "ate like everyone else". Boy, am I paying for it in my body! I know this lesson, but I seem to learn it over and over again. Today I feel sluggish, heavy, and unmotivated. I am really looking forward to a detoxing and getting my body "clean" again. But I'm also tired of thinking about it all the time. (big sigh!)

Hope you are all well!

Did a lot of puttering around in the yard last evening. I stopped, on my way home from work, at one of the local nurseries. Bought a very few bedding plants, but bought some rectangular planters, soil and some seeds. I want to try a bit of container gardening this year - I sodded my whole back yard last year, and I really don't want to be on my knees and bending like you need to for a ground garden. So, I have four rectangular planters, now planted with tomatoes, green beans, yellow beans, and lettuce. I may add to it next year if this works.

I also trimmed and cut the grass, dug around in a few flower beds, put some flowers into pots, and got my first mosquito bite :( I wanted to do a bit more this morning, but it started to rain pretty well as soon as I got up about 7:30. So, I waited til it dried a bit, and I took the dogs for a long walk. They are now sprawled out on the cool kitchen floor, sleeping lol.

I hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

Thinking about you and your run today, Kim!

Sunny and hot already today. Calling for thunder showers, I think.

I'm grateful for the weekend. I have a 3-hour shift this morning, but then I'm done for the week! Yay!

I'm feeling a bit drained; a little run-down. I could use some good, old rest!

Happy Friday!

Amunet, I am running in the Shoppers Drug Mart Run for Women & Girls tomorrow. My daughter and I are really looking forward to it. However, I've been doing so much yard work that I've been resting my back and haven't been running the past week. I've been active though, so I'm hoping that, along with some solid stretching, will help me have a good run tomorrow.

Just wanted to wish everyone a wonderful Friday and a great weekend!

We have blue sky, here in sw Manitoba at 6:30 AM. And it's supposed to stay that way!! I can't begin to describe how that makes me feel. I'm just sad that I have a couple of very very busy days ahead of me now, work & commitments after work, well into the evening :( However, I will excuse myself from my company (my Mom is here for a day/night) & get my girls and I out for a much needed walk this evening. After work tomorrow, I have to drive her into Winnipeg to her sister's for a few days, then return immediately, as I have to go to work the next morning. Be close to 6 hours round trip. Eating will be tricky.

Hand on Winnipeg :) Sunshine is on the way!

Where is your 5K Kim? That's great! I agree that every pound lost is helpful! I'm enjoying my C25K program, but my joints do protest a little and I'm sure it's the extra weight that's holding me back.

Another droopy day here, but it is SUPPOSED to start getting nicer later today, I think...**fingers crossed**

Yes, I was also thrilled to see the sunshine this morning! Does wonders to boost my spirits.

Feeling good today after a very stressful and busy week at work. I hosted a large conference yesterday and now that it's over I feel quiet and tired. Hoping to spend some time relaxing this evening, as the last few days have been so busy. Then am taking tomorrow off to attend to appointments. I have also scheduled some "me time" in there as well and am looking forward to a lovely lunch with my beau - what a treat!

I am running a 5k in two weeks with my daughter, so am hoping for continued sunshine as I train outdoors. Every pound I lose helps with my running, so keeping my eating on track is the focus as we head towards that.

Have a great day everyone...the long weekend soon awaits!

Woke up to BLUE sky and sunshine!!! *woohoo!! I really don't want to go to work today, lol. Took the dogs for a long walk last night - we were gone about 90 minutes. I hit 12 000 steps on my FitBit, yesterday :) I've been aiming for 10 000, and I'm starting to hit it more and more frequently.

Son came over yesterday and raked up my front and back yard. So, I took him for supper at a local restaurant - they do bacon/egg breakfasts all day, so I had bacon, eggs & toast, while son had, what he called, the most amazing clubhouse sandwich he's ever had. I had tea, he had Pepsi, and the bill (counting a 15% tip) was all of $28. Not too shabby. It really is a great restaurant. Kind of reminds me of the Paladin (sp??).

Have a wonderful day everyone!

We enjoyed our sunny Saturday here! Derek took the boys out (our dog and male cat) and sat on Starbuck's patio. They always have a great time together. I had to work and then went to get my nails done. I treated myself to a pedicure, too!

We did some shopping on Sunday morning and then spent the evening with my mum and dad.

Happy Mother's Day everyone.

Cloudy, cool and spitting out here in Brandon. Was going to take the girls for a walk (girls = my dogs) but I'm not up to it in this weather. I gave them pressed rawhide chews instead. Both are kind of lazy today… they took them to their beds, laid them down and are dozing instead.

Spent a great chunk of the day outside, enjoying the sunshine. My daughter and her boyfriend were visiting his folks (1/2 hour out of town) and came in to take me for lunch. Then my son dropped by last evening with a beautiful card.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day in spite of the gloomy weather!

I didn't reply to the email but I am interested. I'm sorry to be wishy-washy! I know what it's like to try and set something up and have a half-hearted response!

A walk at Assinaboine Park would be perfect for me. June is good, I think!

Kim… I'm sorry to hear there was such limited response. I'm very interested in coming into the city and joining some folks for coffee/visit/meet. Even if it's just 2-3-4 of us, can we try in June some time? (having said that, I know I'm away the 3rd weekend … lol)

I saw the sun as it was setting… clouds are starting to break up here in southwestern Manitoba!!! emoticon

Hello everyone! Yes, it sure would be good to see the sun today. I've been taking time each evening when the wind dies down, to sit outside on my deck (yes, wrapped in a sweater) to watch the sunset. Just those few quiet moments make a huge difference in my energy and my sense of calm. I can relate to feeling much less motivated on a day like today.

I've been busy in my yard and enjoying the evenings outside. Tonight, due to rain, we will plan a trip to the Y for some exercise. It's helping me to have some movement incorporated into every day.

emoticon
Btw - my email about a physical meeting for this group had very limited response. As a result, I can not see us moving forward with planning that at this time. Perhaps we should table it for now? Or, we can look at dates other than the ones I suggested. Again, your feedback is most welcome!

Have a great evening!
~ Kim

Hi Everyone,

Sorry I've been MIA lately. I wasn't at home every weekend in April, had company every night (3 different batches) from a week ago Sunday til yesterday morning (minus the weekend, as I was away). I really need my down time, and I'm really REALLY feeling that the past few days.

Son (early 30s) has major mental health issues, and because I've been so busy this past month, I didn't pick up on some subtle changes. He'd taken himself off his meds end of March/early April and was beginning to have some big issues. He claims he's back on them now, but I'm still in "alarm mode" and upset with myself for not picking up on those changes.

I think he's going to be at my place when I get home today, which is ok, but I desperately need a few evenings to myself. Work is intense, and I have definitely learned in recent years how much I really need that down time.

I have a SADelite (light for seasonal affective disorder) and I'm going to pull it out tonight. These grey gloomy days are really getting to me.

Keep well everyone :)

Good evening, Manitoba Members!

Today SP revamped their Team Pages, and as a result things look a little differently than they did before. One thing I am missing is the "Huddle Wall", or the scrolling link to your blogs and daily messages. I know I'll get used to it, but....since we are encouraging more posts on our message boards, this might be a great way to compensate! If you would have "huddled" with the team, post a quick message. Or, if you've posted a new blog, please let us know! Many of us used the scrolling link as a way to check in on what was new for different members. I'm not yet sure how to find your blogs unless I look for each of you individually...anyone know?

Have a great evening! ~ Kim

Please check your email for details about a possible group meeting!

If you live outside of Winnipeg and are unable to attend, please let me know if you'd be interested in something in your area. We may have members willing to coordinate a meeting/walk in the Brandon, Dauphin, or other areas of the province. No "perimeter-itis" here...we want to include all our members!

I am back on track and now that the weather is warming up hope to get outside and walk at lunch time. For the time being though, the treadmill will have to do.

Sounds like everyone is back in focus :)

Hello everyone - wonderful to see all the new posts! My apologies for not getting back to everyone since Dave's message. My computer was "glitching" on this website and having difficulty running the page. But all seems well today.

I'd be up for a meeting and will send out an email to that effect. For many of us, May and June are busy times, but a nice walk at Assiniboine Park or the Forks is a great way to deal with the stress and enjoy spring together.

Welcome back to all of you who have returned to the boards - we've missed you! So great to hear from you and catch up a bit.

This has been an interesting month for me, as I've tried to live more 80/20 in the my eating (80% detox from sugars, 20% not worrying about it.) Has not worked at all for me...a little sugar takes over my whole day! So that's a great lesson for me...hoping I don't have to learn it over and over and over again! :-)

I'm working on being vigilant again as it's clear the food has a big impact on my body. And my girls and I are off to Y tonight for some exercise. So daily planning again is, as usual, the key for me!

Good morning everyone. It's nearly 6 AM and I'm getting ready to head back out to the school, turn around and ride the school bus back (almost) home, supervise JH boys all day at a badminton tourney, and then do it all in reverse. Going to be a long day.

Tomorrow, I have to be on the road by 5 AM, go up to Dauphin, pick up my Mom and then take her into Winnipeg. We have a series of stops in the city to make, then I will take her over to her sister's, attend my meeting (for my hobby group) & head home.

So much for this weekend. I'm struggling with the eating, too. Have to clear out this bad head space.

Thank you for the e-mail Kim.

I have been an absentee member for quite a while. It is nice to see all new members and returning previous members like me.

If spring ever comes, I hope to get back on track with exercise.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Thanks for the call-back, Kim! Sorry I've been MIA for so long! I am active on other teams and have had a tough time fitting everything in each day!

I'm thrilled to see the spring finally coming though and hope this will help us all on our journey!

I'm just starting a couch to 5K program and I'm feeling pretty good right now.

I'll check back and hope to get to know you all better!

Well… I actually went walking on Monday night with the dogs, and got back on my treadmill tonight because it's been pouring rain since this afternoon.

These are big (pardon the pun) steps for me because I've really lost focus this month. It started off the first weekend in April, when I travelled down to Mankato MN for my hobby. 10 hour drive each way… and I'm a nibbler… sweets. I did ok going down, but coming back was not so great.

No problem… I thought I'd get back at it the next day… but nooooo… a few days ago, I was ready to call it quits. I'm from a line of short round Swedes, and decided, why fight it? Then, last week, I caught a flu bug (even though I got the flu shot in fall.. must have been a different strain). Did I lose weight? nooooooo…. I had to pamper myself *rolling my eyes

Yesterday, I had a better day, but still was on the fence about this journey. Today, I was a bit more focused, but it was a mental fight to get on that treadmill. I have a tv in there, so I watch episodes of whatever tv series I'm watching on Netflix. I got into the episode, and before I knew it, my FitBit was vibrating to let me know I'd gotten my 10 000 steps for the day, and I wanted to stay on to the end of the episode!

I've been whining about losing my motivation. Sheer determination and daily check ins here at SparkPeople are helping me get through this, this time. emoticon

Hey Kim, regarding spring challenges, why not base a challenge around activity. We all know that the key to success with our plan is sensible eating combined with regular exercise. The optimal word is 'REGULAR'. We all start a plan but the key to success with any plan is finishing.

As you know even with great adversity I have experienced a bit of success. I can only attribute my success to commitment to the plan, followed up with dedication to the plan and sensible eating and exercise. 262 lbs. is a long journey but I'm glad that it's behind me. As many of my gym buddies now tell me, maintenance, is the key to the future success and that's why I still go to the gym regularlly at least 3 days a week. For the record the days I feel the least to go, I find ultimately are the best because I feel so much better when I get home.

Something that many of the groups that are geographical in nature do is have meetups and get togethers. If you were to want do something like this, I'd be interested.

Stay healthy and stay in touch.
