Heidi (HICIM705),
I don't know if it is the kind of cat, or that my allergies have changed over the years, or if it is indeed Keto that is helping me.

Lots of folks have "issues" like seasonal allergies, and find when eating Keto that their allergies are less severe. My theory is that the carbs (wheat?) are a stress on the system, and when you add a dog or cat on top of that, it is too much.

I left the door to the bedroom open yesterday, accidentally. We were looking and looking for Spooky ... when we found her, on my side of the bed, next to my pillow. My wife said that she knows my scent, etc.

I didn't change the sheets, I just slept there. Still good this morning! That was my experiment.

emoticon Hello, Team Keto! It’s Friday afternoon already and I wanted to go back to the ‘chat’ thread and check in with all of you. I got up and out the door early this morning ~ met my GF’s daughter for a morning walk before we started work today. I’ve been working from home for the most part since March; she was called back to work a few months ago, but worked from home on Fridays during the summer so we would walk together on Friday morning before we both ‘plugged in’ for work. She re-negotiated with her boss since the summer hours ended and successfully negotiated working from home (at least for right now), so we picked up on our Friday morning walk/talk. It was CHILLY this morning, only in the 40’s here in western NJ ~ but looking at the weather app now, it is already in the 60’s and sunny ~ actually it is a beautiful, sunny day.

emoticon Tomorrow, DH and I are going to a friend’s house *down the shore* (as we say in NJ) for an end-of-the-year BBQ. I’ve been asked to bring dessert ~ he *HATES* sweets with the exception of chocolate chip cookies. Thought of making them, maybe some regular – some more keto-friendly? My DD and SIL will be there and he has a real soft-spot for my cheesecake recipe ~ I remember that Holly shared a keto-friendly cheesecake, not sure if I will make that recipe or if I will make regular (maybe a little of both?) … cheesecake is ‘fussy’ however and I don’t want to mess with the quantities, but don’t want to make TWO cheesecakes! Maybe some kind of fall muffin … just not sure – if anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate it. There are only going to be 7 of us, so I don’t want to bring enough to feed 70! (My mom and I have a tendency to do that … she had a dinner-party for 8 once and had 8 cakes! ~ I would laugh at her until a few years ago ~ I had 6 sitting around the dinner table and had 7 different desserts! ~ so I guess I’m kind of just as bad as she is!). Again – any suggestions are welcomed as I have to run to the store to get some ingredients, once I figure out what I’m going to make … I guess I’ll be baking this evening.

emoticon I’m trying to get my ‘head back in the game’ and this team along with the Fall 5% Challenge Team and the Go The Distance in 2020 Team are all helping to motivate me, I think … so a HUGE emoticon to each and every one of you for helping me along. Some day, I hope to return the favor!

emoticon Karen / KDGIRL ~ I remember that you said in the September thread: ‘Wow I've never heard of a post-wedding bridal shower - did that have something to do with COVID’ … Actually, Karen – it had everything to do with COVID (and the fact that one of my DD’s bridesmaids (also getting married) was diagnosed with breast cancer ~ so they also tried to do everything they could to make her celebrations ‘normal’. Check my page – I wrote a recent blog about the whole (or at least part of) fiasco! Good luck with the San Antonio Stock and Rodeo Wine Competition. I hope that you can/will post pics. I admire you taking your own food to stay on track! Glad to hear that the Wine Competition is going well. Enjoy time with your DH ~ that is a long time to be apart! Got any ideas how I can get my DH to go to HI, too – LOL??? Safe travels!!!

emoticon Holly / NIGHTSKYSTAR ~ So sorry that you are finding yourself waking up in the middle of the night! Hoping that you get it under control. I have periods where I go through that as well … other times, I can sleep – who the heck knows what that is all about??? I love the fact that Lucy loves broccoli! My SIL (the one that just passed), would always prepare Keto-friendly things like that and give to her dog, Bruno. He loved some of her Keto dishes. Loved the pics (SnapChat) ~ I don’t do any of that stuff: SnapChat, Instagram, Twitter – DD won’t show me, guess she thinks that I’m a dinosaur and that technology in my hands will mean endless questions to her – she’s mean, huh? I love my FB, however – but should (to spite her) broaden my horizons! Congrats on your additional loss – seems like I’m finding what everyone is losing (not really – just staying the same-ish). Enjoy visiting with your son. S-N-O-W already??? Ugh.

emoticon READTEACH1 ~ Thanks for the kind words of encouragement for my on-again/off-again dance with Keto. I’m feeling as if I’m getting myself back to where I need to be and hopefully have some willpower and stick-to-it-iveness this time around. It was chilly this morning when I went out for an early walk, I believe that we were in the 30’s here last night … but no freezes yet ~ although we are in an area that gets frost/cold before some of the rest of the state does. You make me tired just thinking about all of that field work you have to do. Enjoy coffee outside with your Mom. A woman after my own heart: I love country music (older country ~ enjoy some of the ‘new country’ as well, but I think of that more as what we used to refer to as more popular music).

emoticon Rose / ROSIEJ1942 ~ I agree with not letting anyone in your house right now unless you know them. Not sure about the gloves, however. I work in a hospital and right in the beginning they required us to have masks/gloves no matter what your role (I do fund-raising and not direct patient care, my office is across the street from the hospital building). Shortly after that mandate, they re-thought the ‘glove rule’ because if you don’t take your gloves off properly, you can actually infect yourself. Better to wash your hands!

emoticon Susan / URBANLOTUS ~ WOW! Your DH (and you!) seem to have been through the wringer with his eye-issues and recovery process. Hope that each day is getting better and better (until the return to the doctor and repeat procedures). Sorry your DH had a set-back, happy that you got it checked and he feels reassured. If I gave my DH a bell, I’m sure that I would be ready to make him eat it – besides, our house is small, if he was recuperating, I could hear him call.

emoticon __JC__ ~ I’m sorry to read that your community is once again ‘RED’, hugs to you, please stay safe! Hope that the allergies calm down … soon! I agree with you … THIS is by far one of the BEST teams on SP! I firmly believe that to succeed you must track, track, track and I have to stop being so lazy, lazy, lazy about tracking! There, I said it – I know what the problem is … now to do something about it! I love cream cheese as well.

emoticon Brad / 911BRAD ~ I love the picture of Sammie, she really is pretty. Not sure if I would like Mayo/Jello ~ but I’m with you … a big NO for me on Miracle Whip. Have you tried making keto-ized ‘spaetzle’??? LOVE the fall pots! I have ‘Early American NOTHING’ at my front door! To be fair, we just did the kitchen/dining room floor and then looked at the walls and said we needed to paint. Yeah, we should have done that first, but it is the way it is, no decorating for me until Thanksgiving/Christmas this year – too much other ‘stuff’ going on! Congrats on getting to (and under) goal! AWESOME for you!!!

emoticon Fiin / FIINALEE ~ Thanks for the compliment – there are teams that I actually DO something to try to inspire – not so much on this team, but I love learning from each and every one of you, so – for now, I’m happy to be the ‘student’. WOW – you had some crazy injury and with all of your challenges, still remain to be friendly and upbeat. I admire that – as you would say (I’m pretty sure I’ve seen you say this more than once): Breathe in … Breathe out. Glad that your treatments seem to be working. Teaching inside now with masks must be more of a challenge than being outside – where at least you can get SOME ‘fresh air’. It makes me happy to see that you are feeling better. You have a 4-year-old granddaughter, she must be precious at that age (but probably already has gotten rid of some of the cuteness, because by that time, they absolutely have their own opinions already! Oh my gosh, so sorry about the gas leak – glad you were able to get out and get to safety. According to your posts, it doesn’t seem like you were evacuated too long.

emoticon James / -JAMES- ~ Thanks for sharing that picture of your furbaby. S/he is beautiful! How are the allergies doing with a cat in the house – still good, I hope. Love the story about your C.A.T.! I agree with your wife, it is all about the German accent! I’m not sure if I ‘buy it’ that animals can learn to spell, but I have to say – I think that the WAY you say something to them is a clue as to what they are doing/getting. Of course, just my theory – but I can say something to Raven and she goes crazy – DH does and she sits there … (she actually likes me more than him, so there is that, too-LOL). Thanks for the info on protein, numbers that I always struggle with (get too much). I’ve skimmed what you wrote, but will read over more carefully later. Loved that you gave a SMALL nod to alcohol (with a glass, of course)!

emoticon Charlene / IWANTTOSUCCEED ~ I agree with you … Holly, it may just be that you are getting older. I think that my sleepless nights have to do with the fact that I’m getting older; I also think that sleeping like a baby other days has to do with that, too! I’ve heard about using melatonin – I’ve never used a sleep aid in my life – I know it sounds kind of dumb, but they scare me a little.

emoticon Isabel / IZZY911, BABCIATEA, and Melissa / IVORY1825 ~ Hey there! How are you today?

emoticon Kathleen / KATHLEEN624 ~ We had a cat years ago, Oreo – she acted like a cat most of the time, but I swear she was mixed with some ‘dog’ as well because she would act like a dog: greeted us at the door, ‘talked’ back to us when we told her not to do something and was about as ‘sweet as I can be’ when there was ice cream around!

emoticon Well, I think I'm caught up with the posts ... have a great afternoon ~ off to figure out the desert dilemma for tomorrow! emoticon emoticon

emoticon Haha, you use a glass made me laugh, James!

Todays situation, I was hungry after my lunch and I ate breakfast fully keto so one would think she has had enough food! Right? Then my mind started thinking about what I would like to eat that might make me feel satisfied even though I know that is a trap because more carbs never make me feel satisfied, just wanting more. THEN i remembered my old standby, quick and easy, an ounce of cream cheese sprinkled with Everything but the Bagel seasoning. Using a teeny baby spoon, melt in your mouth goodness and now I feel full with no desire for the forbidden. I remember a few people here who do not like cream cheese but I am not one of them, thankfully! Fat makes such a big difference. Only, One day at a time. emoticon JC

I collected a few tomatoes yesterday. Got down to pretty close to freezing last night. I think this might be it for gardening. I've found that unripe (still green) tomatoes are nice in a salad.

All the tomatoes I've ever seen in a store are red, so this was an experience. What do unripe tomatoes taste like, can you eat them? Pretty good in a salad, even if green. We are putting others in paper bags, ... less sunlight and I think they ripen that way.

IWANTTOSUCCED's recent post about "getting back to sleep" triggered some thoughts.

When the day came that my grandfather was unable to live in his house, and I don't know what precipitated that. I heard that some of his children were taking care of his house as he went into a seniors residence.

They found a big bottle of brandy next to his bed, ... no glass. They asked him about that. He said "It helps me get to sleep". When they asked about the fact that there was no glass, he replied "I know how much to take".

So I have this vision of my grandpa drinking straight from the bottle ...

From a Keto point of view, I've said this before, but I'll say it again, it goes something like this:
- carbs delay Ketosis by up to about 2 or 3 days as they can be stored in glycogen
- alcohol is a poison and must be burned off immediately, delay of a few hours and can't be stored
- protein, OK in normal amounts
- fat, ... sure

So alcohol, though it delays Ketosis is not nearly as bad as carbs. It doesn't raise blood sugar, it doesn't mess with body chemistry the way carbs do.

Do I drink some alcohol. Sure, but I use a glass.

Night sky star, Can’t believe you had snow. We are still gardening here in Idaho. I picked green beans this morn. They were very cold so I picked even the little ones. Will have several pint size bags to freeze. Good thing we covered the pool. It is covered with leaves now. Enjoy your son tomorrow.

READ: The tractor arrived last week. We did go for a ride in it – to the garage – LOL. We’ve decided to put it up for sale – it is way to big to fit in the shed (unless we take everything else out and then we would have no where to store the summer patio furniture). For now, it’s sitting in the garage and the car is sitting in the driveway…..

I do try many different things to get back to sleep. Sometimes something works, sometimes it doesn’t and then there are those times when nothing works for a few days in a row.

KD: have a safe trip.

Subject: eggs, protein, carbs, fat

URBANLOTUS asked a questions about eggs. One way I look at foods is what fraction of their weight is carbs. Yes one can carb count, which is indeed a good thing especially when starting, it opens your eyes.

But I go by what fraction (percentage) of an items weight is carbs. Under 6% is pretty low. Any meat is 0%, or close enough. What about eggs? From the information I find, a single boiled egg is 50 grams, and of that 0.6 grams are carbs. That means per 100 grams 1.2 grams are carbs, so very very low carb. For eggs here are the numbers:

100 grams of eggs:
1.2 grams carbs
12.6 grams protein
10.6 grams fat

So super low in carbs, a good source of protein and fat. The total balance for a Keto across the whole day should be something like this:
20 grams carbs
55 grams protein
200 grams fat

So in that sense eggs have too high a ratio of protein to fat. However, one doesn't eat just eggs. I eat about 1 or 2 eggs a day on average. An omelette with cheese for breakfast ups the fat.

I love eggs.

Hello! YAY, KD the time has arrived!! Can't wait for you to get there and see DH in person! I truly can't imagine going that long of time.

Brad, YAY for you as well!! Goal weight! You truly have been so dedicated. But I totally agree-maintenance is what has always gotten me in trouble. Your tracking will certainly help. I need to do a few days to check the protein, although the weight keeps coming off. I keep expecting that I will stall again, but so far, it hasn't happened. But I know I am getting close to where I think I can maintain. Love the fall arrangement! Mine right now consists of dead flowers lol. When we finish harvest I will get out and bring the pots in.

JC, it sounds to me like you are doing great! Knowing your own weaknesses and triggers is such a huge part of winning at weight loss. You seem to really pay attention to what your body tells you. Thanks for letting us know about HollyCA.

Fiin, how scary!! Never had anything like that happen, but once when we were in Arizona visiting the in-laws, a truck landed in our ditch and knocked the propane tank off its supports. How the house didn't blow up I'll never know!

Urban, mining equipment! It is really massive! Bet that was so interesting as a kid. How many different places did you live? I stick to my tractor-combines are so complicated now with all the technology. It used to be that many women did the combining, but I never have, which is fine with me lol, When we had bins on the place and stored our own grain, my FIL and I brought the wagons in and unloaded into an auger set-up. I learned so much from him and enjoyed his stories of his childhood and young adulthood. He always used to say "You're a good girl, Karen" and he would give me a caramel. One time a thunderstorm was coming and you could just see a bank of black clouds. The bin cover on top was open and there was no way he could climb up and close it. He was in his late 70's then, with bad knees. "Do you think you can do it, Karen?" "I'll try." Let me tell you, those bins are TALL!! My knees were literally shaking all the way up. I got it though! Think maybe I got two caramels that time. LOL. Precious memories!

Kathleen, did I tell you I'm having book club next week in my garage? It's kind of like your quilting group-getting together, even with social distancing, will be so great! Do you have a project you are working on now? I'm in awe of your talent!

Night and James, your insight about carbs and protein are so helpful to me!! I truly am so thankful that I found this group!

Charlene, have you gotten the tractor yet? Are you going to drive it? Hope all is going well with you and DH. Also that you have been sleeping better. Google breathing techniques to fall asleep, maybe that could help. I rely on deep breathing to relax me. Used it when I was getting the epidural as it hurt way more than I expected.

Bab, HollyCA, Izzy, Rosie, whoever I've forgotten, (Spooky!!) have a great day!

Never, never, never, never give up.-Winston Churchill

Fin, I am so glad you are OK!! What a shock to be evacuated like that.

James, thank you for the protein reminder. I haven't been weighing mine. Do eggs count as protein? I know they have a lot of protein but they also have carbs?

Brad, CONGRATULATIONS!!! I am so happy for you! And I love your porch decorations.

Read, the biggest machinery I ever had regular contact with was mining equipment. (Dad was a geologist who took us onto mining sites in off hours quite a bit, just for a look). Some of that was huge. And I never did drive any of the machines.

Night, I love your pics! I play Snapchat with my granddaughters. I had forgotten about it till you posted your pics. I haven't worked out how to get my photos off the app. Lol!

KD, I am so excited for you! Only hours to go now, really!

I'm waving at everyone else as my memory is just not what it used to be and it has taken me a couple of goes to read the posts since I was last on here. Grin.

We're having a quiet day. Nothing much happening except for a little storm awhile ago. There's still some thunder around.

Susan

and thats the thing James. I'm an addict. no 2 ways about it. i make the decision to eat the carbs..as you know i did it when my friend was here. it was a concious decision, and only for 2 days, and i was absolutely adamant that the minute he set foot on the plane i was back to keto. and then my brain said well..just finish out the day and have what you want. and the next day was saturday and i thought well how about starting back monday...and i got that brain thing that said if you dont start back in NOW, all is lost. so i did..and it was hard, i wont lie.

Brad got my steel toed boots for the butt kick..and i can aim well. sooo..hopefully that will give you incentive NOT to slip. i was the sweet and bread and pasta eater, too. mindless..i could bake a batch of choc chip cookies and wonder where they all had gone the next day.

Thanks for the support Team Keto.... pleased to have made the goal... maintenance can be even more challenging so I’m counting on the team to deliver a swift kick in the bum when needed... new maintenance tracker coming.

JAMES, your protein guide makes perfect sense, and it’s so easy to go over. I’d forgotten how carb heavy chicken was until I resumed tracking recently. I’m the guy who eats it, then records it, then is flabbergasted... live and learn!

I did a French style omelette this morning... so buttery and light, surprisingly easy. Not sure why I’d not done one before? Since the Instant Pot is out from yesterday I thought I’d do a healthy version of Coq au Vin. I’ve been freezing things in single serving portions (small), luckily I’m not one of those who eats huge meals, my problem has always been mindless eating of sweets.

Track those carbs and protein!

__JC__,

I'm like you, if I eat high carb things I don't get any stomach problems, but I do get cravings for more carbs. I'm not perfect. It's rare, but it happens. Why I don't know.

I get more hungry than usual, and thoughts like "I'll get back on track tomorrow" start entering my head. That is when I know I'm off track and the only solution is to get back on track immediately, not tomorrow.

thanks JC!!!
i'm like you on that. on the few occasions i choose to have carbs, it does NOT make me sick or nauseous, i actually wish it would so i wouldnt want to ever do it again!!! I think your carb counts are great!!!

James...i have found many places where it says you are absolutely correct...protein is for what your correct weight would be, not for what your weight is now (unless you are at goal of course) if it doesnt spell that out, it just doesnt say anything. I've NEVER seen anywhere saying to wat to what your current weight is.

emoticon Pretty pics of you Night, you are beautiful! Brad big Congrats on meeting your goal you have been Keto strong from the start, a great role model. BTW HollyCali has been seen on the Team page liking some posts, so I know she is still here.

I'm tired today, not much sleep last night with storm but want to get outside in the cool crisp air. My Total Daily Carbs have been 15-16 and one 20 this week, happy with that. Protein needs to get lower but first things first. What I am doing has wiped out all thoughts of food in between true hunger so I know I am doing something right. I was eating Low Carb most days throughout the spring and summer. It did not work for me although I know some who do it successfully. I kept looking at the clock for my next mealtime and snacks did not help. I never felt satiated. One bite of something can really get me started and I do not experience the tummy aches that so many others do so it is easy to eat wrong for me type foods. I'm back to careful tracking (for now). It is more work but it works for me when I do it. I weigh and measure everything which is a pain in the neck but obviously helping. Well that is where I am today, one day at a time, emoticon JC

Subject: dietary protein

Recently the topic of eating protein has come up. Just how much? NIGHTSKYSTAR and I generally say about 50 grams a day for women, 60 for men.

Why those amounts? Here is one article from the Harvard School of Public Health:
www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritio
nsource/w
hat-should-you-eat/protein/

For both men and women it says "just over 7 grams for every 20 pounds of body weight". Now I take that to mean for every 20 pounds of you goal weight. My goal is 165, so (165 / 20) * 7 is 57.75, heck lets go with 60 grams, it did say just over 7 grams. If my current weight was say 270 with a goal of 165, I just don't see a reason to eat more protein to "support" the fat cells, those are things I don't want to support.

I could be wrong on that, maybe when if I were 270 pounds and didn't eat (270 / 20) * 7 which is about 95 grams that the fat cells will be using too much of the protein and depriving my lean cells of protein that they need.

That same number is here on Wikipedia:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protein
_(nutrien
t)

There it is 0.8 grams a day per kilogram of body weight, which works out to about 7.3 grams for every 20 pounds of body weight.

You will find places that suggest more if you are more active, or athletic, but this is the basics.

Now you know why 50 for women, 60 for men.

Brad,
congratulations on loosing weight, and reaching your goal!

I'd say if you change nothing, like continue your current activity level, and eating the way you've been eating you are sure to loose a few more pounds. They have been coming off in the last weeks. Sure some jitters up or down, but the trend is down.

That must feel good. Enjoy it!

READ, we form mental pictures of one another here... I always think of you as the teacher you loved in school, who was kind, but tough when called for. I've had to add in a big combine driver and it's just not computing... LOL, I need a moment. Much respect... now I think of you as that girl in the "Rosie the Riveter" poster. You go girl!

Yeah, I've been wondering about HollyCa too???

DRUM ROLL.... I dropped under my goal this morning... only 1/10 of a pound but I made it. Feeling good. This the weight my doctor likes to see me hold. Personally, I'm shooting for five more gone in 2021. No hurry, no worry. Staying Keto Strong!

Going to attempt a French omlette this morning... I'm using Chef John's technique.

My best to each of you...

Hello team! I love hearing everyone's stories about their lives now, and in the past! Kathleen, the place you visited sounds idyllic!

KD, so so exciting that you are so close to being reunited with DH!

Night, you look gorgeous! I have a pic from when we were doing Messenger weekly with my family. I think I have kitten ears, a pink nose and whiskers. Have to see if I can post it. My nephew just sent me a pic with him completely bald also!! Said the stress had gotten to him lol. The wonders of technology.

Fiin, how're you feeling? Hugs to you my friend!

James, whatever it is, animals do seem to know what is going on. My two goldens know that if I put on workout clothes, chances are good we are going for a walk, and get super excited.

Anyone heard from HollyCA?

DH is going to go to the field and see if he can combine again. I want him to, but I have a hair appointment today!! I think we thought we wouldn't be in corn yet when we made the appointment. Oh well, might have to reschedule. I just hate to leave my sister hanging until the last minute. Back to bacon and cheese slices for lunch today. Yesterday was pork steak breaded with shredded Parmesan. Yummy!

Everyone, have a wonderful day!!

Never, never, never, never give up.-Winston Churchill

Love those pics Holly - too cute about the bald story! Although my sister is bald (now growing some fuzz) and I really don't think it looks bad at all!!

Brad I love your decorations! Your neighbor did a fantastic job!

I have two pages of things to do today. Many things had to be put off until the last day because of the wine competition which is now thankfully all done. And successfully, so that's good.

Kathleen you are one of few who have those kinds of memories!! I grew up in Alaska, and have one specific memory of walking to school - crossing a field and being in thigh deep snow. Of course that was probably only about 2.5 feet of snow then - but it felt so deep!!

Getting going - will check in briefly tomorrow!!

Hey there!
BRAD Love the front porch arrangement. Never had mayo on jello but I will check it out. I love real mayo too.

NIGHT - Wowzer! Very New Yorker with the hat. Looking so cute in the glasses too.

Pets that spell? Okay I never had one that could spell but I did have cats that acted like they were dogs and ran to us when we came home after work.
JAMES - The German accent - LOL

READ - You are right when you say the life of a country farmer is different. I love hearing all your farm stories because my life is so so different than yours. The closest I ever came to being a farmer for awhile was when I was about 10 years old and we stayed two weeks in the summer at my parents friend's house. They were farmers with a large farm. Not even sure what state I was in but we went a few times. We, us five kids, ran through grassy fields and through the corn stalks gathered eggs each morning and just had fun in the creek.. My parents helped them bale hay etc for those two weeks. On Sunday we went to Sunday school which also served as a one room school house during the year. Saturday nights everyone piled into PU trucks and went to swim at the local lake. Those were fun times.

URBAN Good Luck keeping him down and rested. I hope his eye is getting better..

HOLYCALI - Where are you? Hope you are doing well.

Everyone have a great day.

NIGHTSKYSTAR, nice pics. I like the first one.

Probably right on the dogs who can spell, ... they are probably only hearing the first few letters, but good for them!

"Go for a walk" - 4 syllables
W.A.L.K. - 4 syllables, probably just an alternate phrase for the same thing
"squirrel" - 2 syllables
S.Q. - 2 syllables, never mind the rest of the letters U I R R E L

Still good for them if they can parse what you are saying to pick that out.

Looking good NIGHT...

I hired a friend to do my fall pots by the front doors this year... I thought she did a super job. I normally pop a few mums out there and call it a day. After she finished I told her to put me on the list for all the holidays...

Thanks Brad!! Years ago i took an international cooking class..this day it happened to be a hungarian couple..and they made THE best goulash i've ever had. wonder if i could ketofy it...it has an awful lot of onions but grating would give the flavor without all the carbs i think. now i want to go look it up lol. along with it they served galuska..not keto. and chicken paprikash..i have chicken out for supper maybe i'll try that. we wont talk about the strudel though.

James Lucyfur is one oddball dog. shes smart as a whip...never had one that could spell like her..but i think she listens hard..and when i said i was taking her for a W A L K she just heard the W, associated it with the walk..so now either is a trigger. and dont ever try ice cream or cupcake around her. she LOVES cupcakes..i have 5 extra maple ones today and she saw me walking over with them...hahaha bad mom i shoulda hid them...she isnt going to leave me alone till i fork one over. shes got a nose like a bloodhound. figures.

ok so does anyone else here have snapchat...my kid sent me a pic when my company was here and when i picked up the phone and looked i about dropped my teeth..theres my son that had hair as long as mine BALD..i said OH NO BEAST!!!! Paul said whats wrong? i turned the phone said my kid shaved his head...oh NO...my friend says ummm...i'm bald...
OOPS. anyhow...wasnt till i was playing with filters that i found the one that made me bald and figured out that my kid wasnt really bald. me, however, make one uggy bald man...
anyhow..if you have snapchat..i'm having a blast playing with it. the only one thats really me is the one with the glasses--only it poofed my hair. ..haha we will see if they come out right side up.

play along!! its fun!!

I didn't think Brad was joking about mayo on diet jello.

It's probably one of those things. Like moths are attracted to the light, cockroaches shun it. Mayo on diet jello, you are either attracted like a moth, or you are going to run away like a cockroach.

P.S. Cross post with Brad, ... yup my friend Margaret can't say the word "squirrel around her dogs either".

P.P.S. NIGHTSKYSTAR, ... I didn't know that some animals can learn to spell. Wow!

LOL @ Charleen... no joke, I smear it on anything. But it’s pretty good on jello... I may try cutting it with some sour cream as suggested by BABS. I wonder if it’s a southern thing? I can’t stomach Miracle Whip... That’s something you either love or hate.

I’m doing Hungarian Goulash for dinner tonight... (Instant Pot) will try using the Gum as a thicker in place of cornstarch... review to follow. It also calls for a 1/4 Cup of brown sugar... thought I’d substitute Swerve but it has the same carb count... I may just cut way back and hope for the best, my taste buds aren’t as keen as NIGHT’s so I may not miss it. Normally I’d serve it over Spaetzle but my almond flour isn’t very fine and don’t think it would work? Plus I don’t need the extra carbs.

Tackle the day and show no mercy!

Thanks so much everyone for the suggestions!! i'm 2 hours from VT, but even though its legal if you go to a dispensary you still need a script. go figure. Massachussetts would be a 5 hour drive one way. someday!!!

Brad...i love ya but mayo on jello....oy oy oy. i remember going to a once a year dinner one time...they had green jello with fruit in in and whipped cream on top for a "salad". i was all excited...and took a big bite..thought the whipped cream tasted funny. about 30 seconds later..lips start to tingle..grabbed a waitress said ASK please whats in the whipped cream..she was so proud of herself..i made it she says!! ,my moms recipe..half sweetened whipped cream half mayo!!! good thing there was an ambo on campus.

someone...jc i think? asked about the jello...i think it all has maltodextrin. i get big jars of knox unflavored gelatin powder and make my own. mio drops work..i like lemon and lime so i use fresh with some zest..and some swerve. fills my jello need and i know theres nothing icky in it.

Oh Read thats scary. i never ever had to do that...when i worked on the farm i was a teenager and a bit wild..they let me do the combining and spreading but never the trips to the mills or elevators. i could ride along but thats it. sounds like that was a good thing..i'm really impressed that you do that so calmly!! just having 5000 pounds of horses behind me was hard enough..cant imagine all that weight!!!

KD so happy for you!!!! Will be thinking about you..hoping you have a wonderful time!!

James...Lucy is one of those that is fooled once. spell W A L K and she runs for her leash. S W I M is even worse. i gave up spelling. her newest..my friend brought her 2 bags of premium soft dog treats. they are tiny stars...and she is just gaga over them. i have one big bag on the bookshelf where i sit to knit and she comes and sits in front of it staring at them then starts to drool..she knows that will make me give her some quick!! i took a little video of it last night and sent it to him...he laughed said tell her more are on the way. too kind!!

Lotus glad things are improving!!!

I know i missed people..i'm sorry. not much sleep last night..just back from the bakery..brain is shot.

emoticon When I was young, jello salad, with a dollop of mayo on top was a staple in the school lunch program. Usually with something that resembled cole slaw inside the jello. There were many recipes using jello molds in the sixties and seventies. I remember a few with cream cheese and ricotta cheese. Thanks for the memory jog, Brad. I might try it if I can find the sugar free jello without maltodextrin which always sets me off. I can not remember if that ingredient is just in the pudding or if jello has it too? Read, you are the first soybean and corn farmer I have ever known! Love reading your posts. Congrats on the weight loss! Happy to hear cheekiness is back in the house, Urban. KD seemed like H was so far away, happy for you! Bab, pretty ingenious to use a baby monitor that way! It would also warn you of lurking predators. I am impressed! Even though I am not a cat person, I still miss my 14 year old calico so I am glad Spooky has joined the group. Ran out of time, hello to everyone. I see you! Stay safe!

Good morning! Beautiful day here-the wind has died down (thank goodness) and supposed to reach high 70's. Yesterday got up to 82, which is too hot for this time of year in my opinion. I hauled all three loads in and got home about 12:30. DH had mowed and spread fertilizer over the whole yard. I went with him to take the cart (a big pull-behind the pickup) to the elevator and then dropped him off at the combine. He wanted to bring it home. Then dinner of hamburgers and Brussels sprouts. We will start back up tomorrow probably and maybe 2 1/2 days left. No rain days so it is kind of nice to take a little break. Plus I take DS to pick up DGD this afternoon, so it worked out quite well. Didn't get any little chores done yesterday, so maybe this morning. I did make the lemon coconut loaf cake, then we watched Ken Burn's Country Music episode 3. Really enjoying that as I grew up listening to country and bluegrass music. Funny how many songs I remember the words still!

Kathleen, my part of the farming is not that physically taxing. Lifting the tongue of the wagon up to attach to the tractor hitch is the hardest. Climbing in and out of the tractor is good exercise lol. The real danger is the tedium of driving back and forth, back and forth. I have anywhere from 30,000 to 60,000 pounds behind me and believe me, you cannot stop on a dime. And drivers are not very considerate-no turn signals, passing even when I have my turn signal on, etc. There is also road work close to the elevator so lots of big truck traffic and they are always in a hurry. I work to sit up straight (thanks Fiin!!) and stay alert. I can only go about 22 mph tops, so easy to get complacent. Hurrying is the enemy of the farmer because it can make you careless. I've had some hair-raising experiences, believe me! Tires exploding (sounds like a loud gunshot), wheels coming off while fully loaded, tongues on the wagon breaking. Somehow I manage to stay calm and get off the road as best I can. Last time something happened I did cry when I called DH, because the sound scared me so badly, and I was stuck on a heavily traveled, narrow road with little shoulder and deep ditches. He calmed me down, but I sat on the highway for four hours waiting for the repair guy and the tire was so badly damaged, he had a heck of a time getting it off the rim. Ah, the life of a farm girl lol. Probably TMI!

Urban, glad DH was not having trouble with the good eye too! Hope he can stay stationary long enough to heal properly.

My, how time gets away from me! Everyone have a wonderful day and I will check in later!

Never, never, never, never give up.-Winston Churchill

Good morning Team Keto - one day closer to flying off to Hawaii!! The 2nd day of Wine Competition went great. Worked 8 am - 7 pm. Then back to pick up my dog and have a piece of chicken - I wasn't even hungry but knew I needed something in my stomach if I wanted a half glass of wine. Which I did. Went to bed before 930 and now I'm up at 5.

The Finale is today. We have 73 wines that made Double Golds - which means we have 9 judges returning to taste ALL 73 wine. What a job. Glad I don't have to do that. They spit a lot out - that would be hard to do.

I'm finishing my masks today - choosing the clothes and doing laundry one more time. By the time I get there on Friday - it will have been 218 days since I've seen hubby.

Fiin I do love FaceTime. It's been a life saver this year!

Read good luck continuing bringing in your crops. Like the wine competition - it's only once a year but what a big job it is!!

Holly and Charlene if I can't sleep - I remind myself that laying in bed with my eyes closed is helpful and restorative to my body even if my mind doesn't sleep. Then I wake up at some point... so I think just enjoying the darkness and relaxation is good for you!

Brad good for you on your food choices. I'm doing the best I can right now - not eating any junk but not tracking anything either. My big challenge will be when DH comes home and I actually have to start cooking (a bunch) again. LOL I'll have more than cheese and eggs in my fridge!!

James your cat is so pretty!! So fluffy - did you give him a B A T H? Bab my dog knew the word S W I M back in the day - and she got so excited when she saw you start to slip into a swim suit!!

All have a great day!!

Karen "KD"

James .. our yorkie knows the wods dog, out , and walk. On the other hand she feigns ignorance of sit and no....

Ha ha James! Did you try saying cat with a German accent? Did Spooky's ears twitch?

Brad, mayo on sugar free jelly - I won't knock it till I try it. Lol! I like mayo anyway so maybe it will cut some of the jelly sweetness down (we say jelly here instead of Jello).

Charlene, I hope you can find an answer to your sleeplessness. I found out I have moderate sleep apnea so am waiting to try out a machine and see if that helps. I do wake up quite a few times every night so it would be nice if the machine helps.

Fin, thank you for the encouragement. Sending you hugs too.

Night, yes, we do have some amazing friends. It warms our hearts. I haven't tried your Broccoli soup yet but maybe tonight?

Hubby is feeling a little better I go by the cheekiness indicator. His cheekiness is sparking again and I know by that he is feeling less pain. He is far from out of the woods yet but I think he will bounce back, Next week is bound to be better. Today he rang me from the bedroom just for a giggle. We went out shopping for a short time this morning (it was his idea) and this afternoon he has crashed. No wonder. He was supposed to stay in bed.I don't know how to win with enforcing the inactivity rule!

Cat story of the day...

I remember a long time ago my friend Trevor said he was thinking about taking Timber (his big dog) for a W.A.L.K.

So dumb me, I said why do you spell "walk" ... and when Timber, heard me say the word "walk" he went nuts heading for his leash by the back door, body language ... "lets go!". Trever said that is why he spells it, Timber isn't so good at spelling.

So my wife started talking about our new C.A.T. So of course I didn't ask her about why she spelled that word, but she claimed Spooky knew that word. So today I tried it out ... her ears didn't even twitch. So how does my wife explain that? She said you need to have German accent when you say "cat" ... Duh! Sure!

Night ..... too bad you don't live closer I would be happy to share. Its legal here in Oregon and has been helping my husband get through some bad nights and nauseous days from his chemo treatments.
