Antibiotics and antimicrobials in EVERYTHING anymore. I just bought a new mop and noticed that now even mops come with antimicrobials embedded in their fibers.

The one thing that annoys me is people who throw their garbage on the city or town sidewalks instead of putting it in the thrash cans...Also people who abuse their pets and leave them behind when they move out of their place. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

my biggest pet peeve is the umbrella of being disrespectful. theres a lot that can fall into that, but it all gets under my skin. and within that are people who know that something is important to you, but ignore it anyway. such as knowing that recycling is important and still purposefully throwing everything away. gets under my skin. emoticon

Oh my gosh! Reading through these posts, I found so many things that annoy me, lol! At the top of my pet peeves list are: SUVs, lawns, over-packaging, and plastic grocery bags.

People who walk their dogs, but choose not to pick up after them when they go potty. I don't know what is more frustrating...being the person who has to walk the same trail after this person or the home owner who has to pick up after someone else's animal. GROSS!

not necessarily a non-green thing that bothers me ... but I get so annoyed when people can not seem to put their shopping cart into the cart corral, I have a daughter who is in a wheelchair and often times I can't park in the handicapped spot because someone was too lazy to put their cart away.

People that leave trash in the river. They go down with their coolers full of food and drinks, their kids in diapers, cigarettes, and leave all the garbage behind when they leave. It's so weird and thoughtless that they would do that in a place that they go to relax and enjoy.

Disposable bags. There is truly no point to them anymore. I think we should tax every bag that a customer needs if they don't bring a reusable one. I mean, most stores have days where they give them away for free. And most of them are 99 cents anyway.

Every beginning of the month, it's bulk trash days and people throw everything under the sun. It annoys me to no end, that perfectly good items are being put out on the curb to face the elements (sun, rain, dog pee, etc...) instead of taking a bit of extra time to donate to someone who will use them. I do what I can in rescuing these items and donate them through Freecycle. It's amazing how fast they go, and I am affectionately known among my Freecycle's community as the "Curb Rescuer".

People dumping their dogs off on me. Don't get me wrong, I love dogs and I would do anything to help my friends whenever possible, but this is stressing me out way too much. He is very needy. He follows me everywhere and I have almost fell on/over him so many times. He cannot be left alone...he whimpers and whines way too much as he has been spoiled. I cannot get out to do what I need to, as I have no vehicle and must rely on the bus...sorry to bend ears, I think I needed a release. emoticon

emoticon Morons who smash glass bottles on streets and sidewalks just for the hell of it!

Neighbors' cats in my garden! I hauled one off to the Humane Society this morning, and it's not the kitty's fault! Now, the guy next door's just gotten a kitten that he's sworn he was going to keep inside. In three days, I've returned it to his house three times. Yesterday, I grabbed it just as it scooted through my front door on the heels of my DH...and my parrots are loose in the house. Not a good habit.

Hi there, I live in a beautiful part of Yorkshire, and have been blessed to have a long stone wall surrounding my garden. This is situated next to a path. My gripe is people who through litter over my wall into the garden. It`s so disrespectful....

That feels better thank you

Styrofoam annoys me.

And i just found out one of my neighbors doesn't recycle. I found out by way of my daughter hangs with her daughter and it came up in conversation. I was not only annoyed... but SHOCKED!!

I thought most people recycled... and come to find out most people still don't ?! EEK!!!

Why ? I just want to ask her why ? I know i will HAVE to say something to her eventually, It will kill me not to. They just moved here about a year ago and i don't know the mom very well at all... so i am trying to think of a 'tactful' way to say PLEASE start recycling now...

Can't stand the following: Whole Foods here in Northern California has several recycling bins all over the place around their stores. I've seen people dump their bottles, and cups into the trash when the recycling bins are just a foot away. I've spoken up directly to people, but this bothers me.

Tree hugger and proud of it, I hate those gas-guzzling diesel trucks that go mud-dogging on weekends, then dropping clods of mud on the highway when they get back on the road. If diesel goes to $10/gallon, it won't be soon enough.

What I hate worse than people who don't pick it up are the people who pick it up in a bag, tie the bag shut, and then toss the bag in the woods. So you go for a hike and there are these little blue bags full of dog poo all over the place. What is up with that? If you're just going to leave it in the woods anyway, why not just take a stick and move it off the trail? Why do they have to put it in a bag that won't degrade for a few thousand years?

What annoys me is when there's someone who does not do even the simplest of things to help save the environment, and they have a proud sort of cocky attitude about it. Now I'm no tree planter, hugger, lover, or anything like that - but I recycle, volunteer at a quarterly highway cleanup and the yearly turtle egg hatching at my local beaches, unplug all my appliances after use, use excessive water, sign a petition here and there, and I never litter. But if you're sporting a "My Carbon Footprint is Bigger Than Yours" bumper sticker on the back of your Hummer and you have an attitude about saving the planet you live on, you annoy me.

I'm tired of being everyone's "fat friend". No more Ms. Excuses.

EM4488, that would be sooooo frustrating!!! He obviously is incredibly ignorant - if he knew anything at all about the "Greenies", he'd know that the vast majority of them want to SAVE local businesses!! Sounds like a real piece of work.

emoticon I just spent the last 45 minutes reading back through a lot of the blogs. It has been really fun and I agree with all of them. I would love to find a way to copy the story about God talking to St. Francis about lawns. That is diffently a keeper.
I would love to see the entire country have the same laws when it comes to autos, recycling and No Smoking!! emoticon emoticon I've driven in different states and some of their laws are good and others are ...(you fill in the negitive word) I live in Calif. where there is No Smoking inside and some towns are taking it to the outside cafes. I'm on Oxygen and can't be around smoke at anytime. I appreciate No Smoking rules. emoticon for listening and letting us vent.

I'm on vacation and staying with my cousin for three weeks. Her husband hates "GREENIES" - that is what he calls environmentalists.

He won't stop talking about how greenies are ruining America, ruining the world, shutting down local businesses.

He's so bullheaded and just a jerk.

He so much annoys me.

Things that annoy me:

Where do I start? I used to live in wisconsin and recently moved down to north carolina because i got married and my husband just joined the military. I am only 19 and still learning how to be as green as i can be. (not something they really taught you in school). Even with my somewhat limited knowledge of how to live green, I still thought my town in wisconsin had a long way to go to be considered eco-friendly. I got a rude awakening when i moved to where i am now. It is so frustrating to try to be green in this city. I miss my old town. Back there they had bus systems and bike lanes and a recycle program. They also had local grocery stores and a farmer's market. The town had even recently banned smoking in all their resturants. Down here is the worst. THey have no bus system, only taxis. No bike lanes or even any side walks. Gone are the assortment of gas efficient cars, it seems like every car on the road is an suv or one of those giant trucks with a big front and back seat that is still complete with a full size bed in back. The only grocery store is a wal-mart or another chain store. TO their credit they do provide canvas bags but unlike a local grocery store, all their produce is shipped in from somewhere else. I like to know where my fruits and veggies come from if i'm not growing them myself. As far as i know they don't have any farmer's markets. THey have a way longer growing season than wisconsin does, why are they not taking advantage of it or if they are why not share some of the goods with the local community? All the local eateries are allowed to have a smoking section here. I had just gotten used to not have to ask for non smoking anymore. Not that nonsmoking sections help any. even if the smoking section is closed off, all that smoke still travels throughout the entire building. Oh and the area where i live now does not pick up recycling. The center where I have to drop the reusable stuff off has weird hours and is way out of the way so i have to use waste gas getting there. I only go once a month though. It makes me so mad that people in this city don't seem to care about anything as long as they have their big cars and their subdivisions. It is really sad that I am just learning how to be green and am already on a much higher level than the city i live in.

Those stupid, individually-wrapped prunes. PLEASE!!!! Do we seriously need to envelope every single prune in its own plastic wrapper? What a waste! That commercial made me SO angry the first time I saw it, and I still get riled up thinking about it!

Bus stops. This is a big problem in my community - one popular bus stop in particular. There is a trash can RIGHT next to it, and one a little ways down on each side, yet people can't be bothered to throw their trash away. No, it' sjust easier to throw it on the ground instead emoticon

Here's what is currently annoying me:

Not having enough hours in a day. I swear, the older I get--and THAT seems to get worse every day--the more things I would like to to.

The creepy feeling that there are so many Spark teams I would love to join but would never be able to keep up with (see previous complaint)

Our police department. They keep reminding people to get their bikes registered, but they don't have registration forms at the police department! They also don't have bike racks! I rode down there today to get my bike registered and had to chain it to a trash can. When I went in to get my registration form, they had to call around the department to find out where I could find one. I had to pedal over to a bike shop to get the thing! See why there aren't enough hours in a day?

What annoys me:

People who drive really fast to get to a stop light and just sit there an extra 10 seconds. Don't they realize how much gas they're wasting? Especially since it's $2.82-2.95 on my route to work (SouthEast MI)!!

People who don't put their carts in the cart return, leaving the cart in a parking space so the rest of us have to drive around more looking for an open parking space. Again, waste of gas. And it really ticks me off that the people hired to bring in the carts don't clear out the handicapped spaces of the carts left by the disabled people...meaning the disabled people can't use the designated spaces because the employees are too lazy to do their jobs. I once spent 20 min. walking 34 carts out of the 4 handicapped spaces at a store.

There are a couple of things that really annoy me to no end and that is letting the water run while brushing your teeth and those stupid SUV's. Both of these things/acts one can really do without. No one needs an Excursion. There is no pratical reason for it. If you really must move something, which is probably not often. Rent a stupid pick-up for one day. The teeth brushing thing just really irks me. Turn the water off while brushing and then turn it back on to rinse the sink out. How hard is that?

God before everything. Peace above anything.

plants grow in any type of soil, withstand drought and
multiply with abandon. The nectar from the long-lasting
blossoms attracts butterflies, honeybees and flocks of
songbirds. I expected to see a vast garden of colors by
now. But, all I see are these green rectangles.

St. FRANCIS;
It's the tribes that settled there, Lord. The Suburbanites.
They started calling your flowers "weeds" and went to great
lengths to kill them and replace them with grass.

GOD:
Grass? But, it's so boring. It's not colorful. It doesn't
attract butterflies, birds and bees; only grubs and sod
worms. It's sensitive to temperatures. Do these Suburbanites
really want all that grass growing there?

ST. FRANCIS:
Apparently so, Lord. They go to great pains to grow it and
keep it green. They begin each spring by fertilizing grass
and poisoning any other plant that crops up in the lawn.

GOD:
The spring rains and warm weather probably make grass grow
really fast. That must make the Suburbanites happy.

ST. FRANCIS:
Apparently not, Lord. As soon as it grows a little, they
cut it-sometimes twice a week.

GOD:
They cut it? Do they then bail it like hay?

ST. FRANCIS:
Not exactly, Lord. Most of them rake it up and put it in
bags.

GOD:
They bag it? Why? Is it a cash crop? Do they sell it?

ST. FRANCIS:
No, Sir, just the opposite. They pay to throw it away.

GOD:
Now, let me get this straight. They fertilize grass so it
will grow. And, when it does grow, they cut it off and pay
to throw it away?

ST. FRANCIS:
Yes, Sir.

GOD:
These Suburbanites must be relieved in the summer when we
cut back on the rain and turn up the heat. That surely
slows the growth and saves them a lot of work.

ST. FRANCIS:
You aren't going to believe this, Lord. When the grass
stops growing so fast, they drag out hoses and pay more
money to water it so they can continue to mow it and pay to get rid
of it.

GOD:
What nonsense. At least they kept some of the trees. That
was a sheer stroke of genius, if I do say so myself. The
trees grow leaves in the spring to provide beauty and shade
in the summer. In the autumn, they fall to the ground and
form a natural blanket to keep moisture in the soil and
protect the trees and bushes. It's a natural cycle of life.

ST, FRANCIS:
You better sit down, Lord. The Suburbanites have drawn a
new circle. As soon as the leaves fall, they rake them into
great piles and pay to have them hauled away.

GOD:
No. What do they do to protect the shrub and tree roots in
the winter to keep the soil moist and loose?

ST. FRANCIS:
After throwing away the leaves, they go out and buy
something which they call mulch. They haul it home and
spread it around in place of the leaves.

GOD:
And where do they get this mulch?

ST FRANCIS:
They cut down trees and grind them up to make the mulch.

GOD:
Enough! I don't want to think about this anymore. St.
Catherine, you're in charge of the arts. What movie have
you scheduled for us tonight?

ST. CATHERINE:
"Dumb and Dumber," Lord. It's a story about....

GOD:
Never mind, I think I just heard the whole story from St
Francis.

The lawn-watering thing reminds me of an article I read...I don't remember it exactly, but it was something about a guy that just let his lawn "go wild". It was really funny - there were rabbits, squirrels, snakes, and weird insects and plants living on his lawn at the end of the summer. Haha. I think he got a couple fines, also.

I think one of the things that really annoys me is the suburbs. It's just wrong in so many ways - economically, environmentally, health-wise... Also, big vehicles. Like, there's this one called the Alaskan or something or other, and it's seriously so big you could fit 3 small families in it. Like WHY do you need something that big??!!!

Yeah, when I wrote that, I was also thinking of certain developments, like my boyfriend's parents' that is governed by a really strict HOA! But I wouldn't move into one of those types of neighborhoods for reasons like that anyway ;)

I'm just utilitarian - if I'm goind to expend energy and water to grow something, I want to be able to eat it! :)

I hear ya, SCHWINNER! When I had a lawn, I wasn't all that big on watering it, for those same reasons. (I live in a condo now, and have no control over the sprinkler system.) But there are other things to be considered. I live in Florida, and we have snakes of all sorts, including 6 poisonous varieties. Since snakes can hide very effectively in tall grass, the County rides through every so often to make sure nobody's grass is too high. The fines can be fairly stiff if it is. You can get away with a certain amount of xeriscaping in your back yard, but not the front. Unless it's been professionally done and looks fantastic, for the most part, neighbors will complain to the County, and then you have a problem. The closer you get to the beach, though, the less people seem to worry about it, and the more native plants and xeriscaping you can get away with. There was an article in a magazine a couple of years back where a whole town in Florida had been built by a developer, and he'd used xeriscaping everywhere, and actually created a town ordinance that required it.

JERSEYGIRL, I sort of have issues with watering lawns PERIOD! ;)

I don't water mine - I figure if it rains enough, I get a green lawn this year. I just feel too guilty watering my lawn.

I think what really gets me is that it's just an aesthetic thing. In many regions, the grass doesn't even grow that well or isn't native, and I'd like to see more people doing xeriscaping or using native plants in their yard. Why the American obsession with the perfectly manicured, bright green lawn??

Big trucks downshifting, the odor alone is enough to send me to the hospital ER. I have severe asthma.

Idling cars or trucks.
If people really have to go to the store ,just shut off you car or truck for the duration of your shopping spree.
I live on a hill and my bay windows can see to the Bronx,Mount Vernon, New Rochelle, and Long Island Sound.
It's a waterway between Long Island and our coast line. I used to go sailing there but it has been too over crowded to do that anymore. The boat traffic is out of this world.

I hate to see the large apartment buildings burning their garbage, besides stinking up the area,it's illegal. Only certain apartment buildings have a permit ( I don't know why) to burn their garbage.
Fortunately, those numbers are dwindling down . I can only see two or three buildings doing it . I just feel sorry for the people living in those area's
