Good morning. It is pouring out there today. I was planning on going to the farmers market but will wait until the rain either stops or slows down,

Lesley: We had a lot of rain yesterday and this morning it is pouring out as well.

Barbie: Yeah it is good to see the tomatos finally coming out. My friend has both his coloscopy and endoscopy next month.

Good morning friends,

I cannot believe that this is week 4 - this felt like it flew by. I know it always goes quick, but this just seemed super fast to me. I hope I see you both in the next round.

Well, the rain started and it is pouring out. Looks like this is how the whole weekend is going to look. We went to the farmstand and there were no zinnias out yet. They don't think they will get them for a couple of more weeks. I got one more tomato plant for yellow cherries and a cucumber since 1 tomato and 1 cucumber that we already planted are not looking strong.

Since it is going to be a crappy weekend, I am going to need to get creative with Jimmy. He has had it up to his eyeballs with boredom already and he has been doing small things outside. Now being stuck indoors, not sure what I am going to do with him.

I didn't do any menu planning for this weekend or the beginning of the week. I will need to get on that now since there is nothing left in the house and we can no longer wing it with my stomach issues. We are noticing though, both of us are losing weight being on my lactose-free diet. It is having a positive although annoying effect. emoticon

@Patti - I wish I could send you some rain. If I looks on the pool over, we got an inch overnight and although expected to stop soon, more is on the way.

@Barbie - I wound up getting the new Versa Sense - it was on sale for about the same price as the Versa 3 and I got a different band to go with it. I don't like the bands they come with, they make me sweat and its uncomfortable.

I am glad your appointment went well and they got you in before he went away. Now it is the waiting game.

My test showed a gluten sensitivity too - but that doesn't seem to bother me. I think that would be even more difficult to manage. Fingers crossed I stay that way. I don't need anymore sensitivities coming out of the blue.

It was a beautiful blue sky and a nice morning here. Marv and I got in a wonderful 2 mile walk. Then I came home and did stretches and some PT exercise. Then I went and got my hair trimmed which always feels wonderful.

In the afternoon I worked in the yard and garden and got quite a bit done. I ended up with about 11,000 steps for the day which is a lot for me.

Bob came over and mowed the lawns so now it all looks great. Afterwards he and I went out to dinner at my favorite little restaurant that serves tasty vegan pizzas. I got the vegan taco and Bob got his non-vegan calzone.

@ Patti – I hope you got your much needed rain. How exciting that you have baby tomatoes on two of your plants. I just have flowers so far.

@ Lesley – I am glad you were able to go out to dinner and find something that you could tolerate. Bob’s daughter is gluten intolerant and she really has a problem when they are traveling finding things she can eat.

I hope you were able to get the zinnias when you went to the farm stand. It will be nice to have that area all finished. It sounds beautiful.

I am sorry you will have cool and possibly wet weather this weekend. That is what we typically have, but this year it is supposed to be quite warm.

So far I am really liking the Versa 2. I had the Versa Lite before and the 2 has so many more features which I am liking. My daughter has the Charge 3 and she said she loves hers too.
My GI appointment did go well. The reason I got in so quick was because of the referral and the fact that he was going to be out of the country for June and July. He would not have seen me until about October otherwise. That is why I won’t have the colonoscopy and the endoscopy until August.

Yes, I can’t even imagine dealing with such a long graduation. I think they probably weren’t committed that whole time, but still. I think I am glad I wasn’t there even though I would have loved to share it with my granddaughter.

Good morning everyone. we are supposed to have some rain today. Hope we get it since we need it.

Lesley: We just planted with packets of seeds. The cilantro and basil that we got that were already in pots did not work out.

Barbie: There are two tomato plants that have some baby tomatos on them. The other ones are have flowers but no tomatos

Good morning Lilacs,

Yesterday was an okay day. Beautiful outside so once I finished work, I told Jimmy I wanted to go out to eat and go to the restaurant that made me really sick last week. I found out that the tuna tartare has the wasabi cream which is made with milk. I told them they need to put the "creme" on the menu, not just wasabi since that is misleading. I might send a note to corporate about that. But anyway, at least I found out what the offender was. I had a crab roll, with fries and coleslaw and that was fine - roll was just plain. It was nice to be out for a while and not cook.

We are going to the farm stand this morning to get some zinnia's . That's the last thing we need to plant around the lamp post and then some areas around the pool. They are so vibrant and full and really take around the yard. Usually we have them by now, so I am hoping we haven't missed out.

The weekend is expected to be cool and rainy - not a good holiday weekend. We might try to get the pool open today just so that we don't have to keep draining the cover of the rain water. If not, it won't be until Tuesday when we can drain and then see if it will dry a bit. Considering it is going to be crappy, it doesn't really matter, we won't be sitting outside to enjoy it.

@Patti - I wish I could have found some arugula - and spinach. We buy starter plants from a local grocer/farm stand. I think next year, I will do my own starter plants.

@Barbie - How do you like the Versa 2? I am looking at getting a smartwatch. I don't have an iPhone so the apple is out, and trying to figure out what I want.

I hope your GI appointment was okay - that was quick to just get the call and get in. Usually you have to wait weeks lately.

Well, I know it stinks that you weren't there for the graduation, but it sounds like it was probably a good thing. 6 hours - my goodness. College graduations are always long, but that's a lot.

Today was not a great day. I had a really hard time sleeping last night, my Versa 2 says I got 5-1/2 hours which is not enough sleep. I laid back down for a couple of hours. When I got up, I got a call from the G.I. doctor and he wanted to see me today so I hurried and showered and was there in 45 minutes.

When I got home, I was still feeling tired so today became an unplanned total rest day.

At 3 p.m. I started watching my granddaughter’s college graduation which was a drive-by celebration and took forever. I am not sure how it all worked, but looking at the video, the drive-by part took over 6 hours, and there was also another portion that was about half hour or so. Hopefully they weren’t required to be that long.

The only thing I accomplished was finishing a graduation card for a friend, and working on one for my granddaughter.

@ Patti – I am glad you were able to go out yesterday morning and get some things done. How are your tomatoes doing?

I am glad the exercises seem to help and that you will be able to cut back to every other day soon.

@ Lesley – What a bummer that your doctor still wants you to have the breath test. Good luck in getting yourself psyched up to get it done.

How frustrating to continue having the stomach issues. I really hope you get this under control soon.

I got started with massage when my husband was still alive, and since he passed away at the end of 2013, I have treated myself to monthly massages and they have been a lifesaver to me. I can’t even imagine the pain I would be in without them. I am not very consistent with doing all the stretching that I need to do, but I need to get better at that also.

I was really have stomach issues and just not feeling well so I decided to check out the whole food, plant based classes that are offered in this area. I decided I had nothing to lose so I would try it. I have never felt better so I have continued trying to eat that way. I don’t always make it 100%, but I keep trying.

Good morning. Yesterday went out for a while in the morning to get things done. It was supposed to rain but we did not get any. Just got done watering the tomatos this morning.

Lesley: Yeah I got mad at myself for doing that. We have cilantro, basil and arugala growing as well. Hope you have a better day with your stomach issues

Barbie: The exercises seem to help a little bit. I am doing them every day again for about a week and then go back to every other day.

Good morning Lilacs,

I sent the results of my tests to the doctor and he pretty much said, if you want to know for real, you have to have the breath test even if it makes you sick. So, now I need to think about this and get myself psyched up to get it done.

I was up again last night with stomach issues. I didn't have any dairy yesterday, but the asparagus was sautéd in ghee. I will cook some eggs in the ghee again today to see if that is it. It wasn't a bad attack, it just kept me up during the night.

@Patti - Too bad you aggravated the tendonitis. Do you have any other vegetables than tomatoes? We plant the basil all around the tomatoes to bring out the flavor. We have zucchini, and cucumbers and lettuce and trying a few other things this year too.

@Barbie - I feel like a need a massage - I still have a cramp in my neck, but at least my lower back is good. I am not one to get massages, but everyone raves about how good they feel, maybe I need to change that. I also need to get stretching done - Jimmy is yelling at me about that. If I complain about a pain, I don't bother to try to stretch it out, I just complain. emoticon I guess it is time to get back on the exercise bandwagon and get some yoga done. I think I just cannot shake my pity party - even though yesterday, I was feeling pretty good.

Why did you become vegan? I started changing just as a personal preference, but now with the dairy issues, seems like I am being forced to. I am not upset about that, but I don't think I will ever fully change. And in a house full of carnivores, it won't be easy.

I got a decent night’s sleep last night and it was nice this morning which immensely helped my mood. Marv and I got in a nice 40 minute walk this morning. When I got home I did 15 minutes of Zumba and stretching.

This afternoon was my monthly massage which felt heavenly. I didn’t get much else accomplished – worked on some cards for friends, picked radishes and watered.

Dinner tonight was the final serving of the BBQ Jackfruit and Sweet Potato Fries and vegetables.

@ Patti – I am sorry your arm is a little sore from the digging. I hope the exercises help. I need to get back to doing my PT exercises daily for my bursitis too. Oh, basil and cilantro sound awesome.

@ Lesley – Your long weekend weather is the opposite of ours. It is cooler now and predicted to get to 90 over the weekend. I would love to have a pool to cool off in in the afternoons.

Before I became vegan, chicken was my favorite. I rarely ate beef, especially burgers.

I am glad you got the results of your sensitivity testing early. It sounds like you will be doing some more research and possibly altering more of your menu items. Good luck with it all.

Bummer that you also had a pity party yesterday. I always dislike it when I can’t even figure out what causes it.

My first thought when I was told I was anemic that it might be diet related. However, the doctor did a test and while the feces didn’t show blood, when he put the test material on it, it did show blood. That is why he is having me repeat the test in one week and referring me to the G.I. doctor. He said it was most likely higher up than the colon, possibly the small intestine. I don’t eat beans and lentils as much as I should (3 servings per day), but I do try to get in several servings each week. We’ll see what the further testing shows.

Good morning. My right arm is a little sore from digging the holes and it is the arm that has tendonitis. I will have to do the exercises everyday for a while now.

Barbie: We planted basil and cilantro.

Good morning friends,

Going to be a hot and humid day today. hitting 90 again, and then dropping to 70, and 60's over the long weekend. We have started to fill the pool so that come Friday we can open it.

We wound up grilling the chicken yesterday. Since we haven't grilled in so long, it tasted really good. Chicken is funny with me. There are days that I just cannot even think about eating it, and others its great. Last night was a good night probably because its been so long since we used the grill.

I just got my results for my sensitivity test which was a surprise since it wasn't expected until June 9. It shows high sensitivity to some milk products, some grains, and scallops, which I can attest to. But it also shows sensitivity to eggs, almonds, brazil nuts, cashews and macadamias - which I eat regularly. So, I want to learn more about all of this.

@Patti - Meatloaf sounds good. What seeds did you plant?

@Barbie - Seems like you an I are having competing pity parties. I got in a funk yesterday afternoon as well. I am going to say it is related to the full moon since I can't figure out any reason for it either and it prevented me from doing some yoga for my back.

My friend, who was vegan, was found to be severely anemic. She had to start having weekly transfusions and she is now eating meat as well. I think her diet was not necessarily a healthy vegan, which lead her to this. I think that is why as I am moving towards more plant based, I keep incorporating more beans and lentils since those seem to fill the void from meat.

Here is the recipe I used for the zucchini dish - www.kitchentreaty.com/zucchi
ni-fettucc
ine-with-creamy-white-bean-a
lfredo
-sauce/

I think I will try this one next time - www.godairyfree.org/recipes/
best-ever-
vegan-alfredo-sauce
This website incorporates a lot of vegan recipes even though it is a dairy free site - www.godairyfree.org/ I bought the book too which has been really helpful

I am going to make a "cheeze powder" using the cashews (I'll give you the recipe next time) which is supposed to be similar to a seasoning where it can impart some cheese flavor to things like popcorn, or mix with water and makes a sauce.

It was cloudy and windy this morning so I had planned to do a Zumba workout and strength, but I ended up having a pity party instead for some reason, so I didn’t end up getting in much workout. However, I turned on the Christian radio station and cleaning the family room.

My doctor’s appointment went fairly well. I had actually lost 3.5 pounds which was a happy surprise. Most of the blood work was improved which was nice. The only new issue is that it shows I am anemic so I have to have another blood test in one week and I am being referred to a GI doctor for a consultation.

Dinner tonight was sweet potato, black beans, sweet peppers and mango which I really enjoyed.

@ Patti – Having leftovers is always a bonus, at least for me it is since I don’t especially like to cook. Good job on digging holes for some more seeds. What did you plant?

@ Lesley – I am glad DS was able to take Jimmy to Home Depot to save you having to do it. I wish the weeds weren’t so hardy. LOL So far I haven’t had too many in my raised bed garden, but they seem to really like the raised bed strawberries.

I am glad your back isn’t quite as sore. I hope you were able to do something today.

I am sorry for the bad news regarding Jimmy’s ankle. I am sure he is really bummed about that. I hope he doesn’t have to put off the hand surgery too long.

Your dinner last night sounds quite yummy. The alfredo sauce sounds like a healthier version. Where did you find the recipe?

I have tried the jackfruit a few times. The first time I bought plain jackfruit and added bbq sauce. I didn’t get it mushed up and combined very well and I wasn’t fond of it. This time I inadvertently bought it with the bbq already in it and it was pretty well mushed up and I have been enjoying it. I had never heard of it before either, but I heard about it in the class I was taking. It is canned. Interestingly a friend of mine has bought it in the produce section (she had learned about it in a trip to Mexico) and she served it as fresh fruit and I really like it that way, but I have never bought it and tried to do it myself.

Good morning. yesterday we had left over meatloaf and some steamed vegetables. I dug a couple of holes for some more seeds yesterday. It was a cool day. It just sprinkled a little bit.

Lesley: The car race was loud. So far there are not many weeds in our garden. Just got done watering the garden a few minutes ago.

Barbie: Good luck with the blood work. I am sure that it will be fine. We don't go to the races that often, but it was fun.

Good morning Lilacs,

DS took Jimmy to home depot yesterday, so I didn't need to worry about it. I weeded the garden since for some reason, they are really bad. He got some organic weed killer, so I spread that around the veggies and we will see if that helps.

My back is still a touch sore, but I think I can do something today. I didn't do anything but walk yesterday again.

Jimmy got some bad news regarding his ankle. they want him to stay non-weight bearing for another week. so looking forward to getting his walking boot on Tuesday, now we go until the following Monday. This means that he now needs to postpone his hand surgery for his trigger finger for a couple more weeks - that is causing him more pain than anything right now. He was kind of bummed for the rest of the day.

I made halibut with zucchini alfredo for dinner. The alfredo sauce was made with white bean puree and was actually pretty tasty. But the zucchini ribbons, I cooked too long, so they got kind of mushy. I have more zucchini, so I will use the rest of the sauce with that and try again just not cooking it for too long. So far, my attempts with changing how we are eating and keeping out dairy, are successful. I am also thinking I will make a chicken divan and use the rest of the sauce with that instead.

@Patti - Usually we grill all year - this year we didn't move the grill up to the back patio, so we haven't grilled much. I am looking forward to grilling again now that we will spend more time at the pool. That's why I have never gone to any of the car races - they seem so LOUD - lol.

@Barbie - I had to look up jackfruit - have never heard of it. It sounds interesting. Did you use the jackfruit with just some bbq sauce, or did you do something special with it? I might need to keep my eyes open to see if any of the stores are carrying it.

Good luck at the doctor's today. I hope your blood work and everything shows the work you have been putting in.

Good evening Lovely Lilacs. My day started off with a visit to the lab for blood work for my doctor’s visit tomorrow afternoon. It was a cooler day today and it rained a bit in the afternoon.

Marv and I got in a nice walk and then I did a lower body workout and stretching since I am still a little stiff and sore. After lunch I went and bought groceries for the week.

This afternoon I had to search for a document I am supposed to take to the doctor tomorrow. Thankfully I finally found it without too much searching. Then I vacuumed the house.

For dinner I had bbq jackfruit sandwich with sweat potato fries and cabbage slaw. Quite yummy.
@ Patti – Grilling sounds great especially on a hot day. I always appreciate it when it showers and I don’t have to water the garden. Yes, I am a little bummed about not being able to be at the graduation ceremony.

@ Lesley – I am sorry it was hot and humid yesterday. I am thankful we don’t have the humidity here that much because I just can hardly tolerate it.

I am sorry to hear that you tweaked your back. I hope that it feels better quickly.

I hope you were able to fit in the run to Home Depot today.

I agree with Patti, car races tend to be quite loud, but I loved going with my hubby when he was alive.

I am a little bummed about my ex being at the graduation and me not, but I have gotten over being upset. I think part of it is because they (my ex) seem to always get the one up on me, probably because being single I have limited funds to spend on trips.

Good morning. Yesterday we grilled out for dinner. It was a hot day. They are calling for showers today. So I may not have to water the herbs and tomatos.

Lesley: The race was okay. A little loud. I was glad that they had veggies at the farmers market. Take it easy with your back. Hopefully it will get better soon,

Barbie: It was a fun day out. Got some zuchini and squash from the farmers market. Yea that is a bummer that your x and new wife will be at the ceremony and you will be at home watching it

Good morning Lovelies,

emoticon Congrats to us on winning week 3!!

Yesterday was another hot and humid day. We stayed in most of the day, it was just intolerable once the sun fully came up. it is back to normal today, but back to 90s mid-week.

I was weeding the garden 2 days ago, and tweaked my back. Then yesterday, we cleaned off the pool cover of all the pollen and various other tree droppings to get ready to uncover it this weekend. That didn't do much to help it and I can still feel it this morning. advil isn't doing much for it either. We will see how it does today.

I have a lot of meetings today, but need to find time to get Jimmy to home depot. There are a few things we need and have been putting it off since he needs to keep his leg elevated. We really need to get it all today, so at some point we will need to run these errands.

@Patti - What a fun day - car racing and chinese food! I have never been to a car race - Loudin isn't far from us, but have never thought of going. I am glad to hear that you got veggies at the market. That means that ours will start to have stuff soon.

@Barbie - What a busy Sunday you had! I had planned on a busy day like that, but with the heat and my back, I didn't accomplish what I wanted to. Oh, well.

I am sorry you won't be going to the graduation. I would have made the same choice as a drive-by wouldn't have made sense. It does stink though that your ex and the new wife will be there.

Got no exercise in yesterday because of my back and doubt right now, I will do anything other than walking again since it is still bothering me and I have a cramp all the way up to my neck probably from sleeping funny.

It was a great temperature day here. Today was my break from walking so I decided I would finish weeding and digging out the bush in the small flower bed by the mail box. I succeeded in getting it done and it looks pretty nice. I also did some trimming of grass around the borders in the front yard.

I also got a couple of coats of paint on the flower pots for the bird bath I hope to make, watered the garden and flowers, changed sheets, and did about 5 loads of laundry. I also planned out some cards that I need to make this week.

I made a new recipe which was a butternut and black bean stew/soup. It was actually quite tasty.

I found out today that I will be able to watch online my granddaughter’s graduation from college this Friday. It is a drive by ceremony. I would have liked to be there in person, but since it is a drive by, it didn’t seem to make much sense, but now I am a little bummed because I found out that my ex and his new wife will be there.

@ Patti – Your day yesterday sounds like it was a fun time. I am glad you found some veggies at the Farmers Market.

@ Lesley – I am so glad you finally woke up without stomach issues and that you had a good night of sleep.

I hope you had a successful day getting caught up on things.

I really don’t like it when the weather goes from winter to summer all at once. Thankfully our weather has been a bit cooler lately than it was there for a while. Gives me time to adjust. LOL

I am glad that Jimmy is being a good boy. I can imagine how difficult it is for him to sit quietly. I know I would have the same problem if I were him.
Thank you for explaining about the breath test. That doesn’t sound like a lot of fun either.

I hope you enjoyed your exercise today. I am anxious to hear what you ended up doing.

Thank you for the information about the pizza crusts and the recipe. I will have to look for them around here. I would rather buy them than make them, at least the first time.

Good morning

Yesterday we went to a local car racing place and watched a couple of races. Got home around 10:00pm. We also stopped at a chinese place and got some appetizers to snack on before we went to the races.

Lesley: The farmers market has veggies now. I forgot to get cucumbers but got some squash and zuchini. My eye appt did go well.

Barbie: I had a good time at the farmers market.

Good morning Lilacs,

Today if the first day in a week that I have woken up and feel good. No stomach issues and had a great night sleep.

Lots of things to now catch-up on. Our house cleaner didn't come last week, so I need to vacuum the rugs a bit from all the whirlybird things that the dog tracked in. Need to freeze the white beans I made. I have a lot of laundry that needs to be put away. And I have some food to season and prep for the week.

Its quite hot here. 90 yesterday and supposed to be same for today. No one is ready for the heat and humidity. It all came too fast. Its just uncomfortable to sit out - no breeze. today, though, its supposed to be gusty, so might not feel so bad.

@Patti - That's great about your eye appointment. I hope you got some good stuff at the farmer's market. I imagine they have more veggies now.

@Barbie - Jimmy is being a good boy so far. Keeping his foot up, not doing any yard work, and just sitting. Which also means he is pouting and frustrated since he is not one to sit. At least my pity party is over.

Its called a hydrogen breath test. You drink this drink laced with lactose. Your intestines produce lactase, which is supposed to break down the lactose. If the lactose does not break down by the time it reaches your colon, that's what cause the problems. And your body produces excess hydrogen. You breathe into something every 30 minutes until you start to have symptoms.

Going to get some exercising in today other than walking. Hoping to get in a short yoga session, and either a bike ride or try a zumba session. We will see what I have time for.

I bought the crusts. These were from Wegman's but I also tried the Trader Joe's ones. They are both really good, but the Wegmans one crisped up a bit more than the Trader's joe's one. Here's is one from the Dairy Free website I found.

www.godairyfree.org/recipes/
dairy-free
-cauliflower-pizza-crust

This recipe is infused with cauliflower, that's finely minced, but not pureed, to help provide a tender structure. Raw cauliflower minces rather easily in most blending appliances. I've even pulsed it in a personal-size blender (in batches) with good results.

Ingredients
1 small head cauliflower, coarsely chopped
4 large eggs
1Ľ cups almond flour
2 tablespoons salt-free garlic herb seasoning
Ľ teaspoon salt

Instructions
Pulse the cauliflower, in 2 batches, in a food processor or blender 10 times, or until it reaches a rice-like consistency. Makes about 3 cups.
In a large bowl, whisk the eggs. Stir in the almond flour, seasoning, salt, and cauliflower until well combined.
Preheat your oven to 400°F and line a rimmed baking pan with parchment paper.
Transfer the cauliflower mixture to your prepared pan, and with your hands, shape it into a 12-inch circle that's about ˝-inch thick.
Bake the crust for 25 minutes or until the edge start to brown.
Remove the cauliflower crust from the oven, and top as desired. Bake the pizza for 10 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.

It was a bit warmer here today which was nice. I woke up with less pain this morning, except for my hip. Marv and I enjoyed a nice walk and then I stretched and foam rolled. I wanted to do some lower body strength today, but I decided not to because of the pain.

I couldn’t really get too motivated to do much today. I think I was having my own pity party because of the pain.

I thought about starting my birdbath project, but it was windy so I didn’t think that would be good as the paint might get everywhere so maybe tomorrow. I have some cards I need to make so I was looking for ideas so maybe tomorrow I can get started on those also.

Bob and I are going to go out for dinner tonight at a small Italian restaurant in a nearby town. He is looking forward to having spaghetti and I am looking forward to just doing something together.

@ Lesley – I am glad Jimmy’s appointment went well and it was not something serious. I hope he was a good boy today and followed doctor’s orders.

I am sorry your pity party continued yesterday, but I can definitely understand why. I hope journaling will be helpful. What is the breath test? I can definitely understand not wanting to intentionally risk the intolerant episode. I hope the sensitivity tests you sent in will be enlightening.

The cauliflower crust pizzas sound yummy. I have been wanting to try the cauliflower crust, but I don’t have a recipe for it. Did you make your own?

I am sorry all of these “events” have also been affecting your exercising, but I am sure you will get back into the groove soon.

Today I did feel some better, but hip still hurt quite a bit so I have been taking it easy and stretching and foam rolling which has helped.

@ Patti – I hope you had an enjoyable day at the farmer’s market and found some good vegetables. I am glad your doctor’s appointment went well.

Good morning

Getting ready for my trip to the farmers market then grocery shopping before it gets hot.

Lesley: My eye doctor's appt went okay. I have a slight cloudiness in my eyes but nothing to warrant surgery at least not right now.

My points - 1,445

Good morning friends,

Jimmy's appointment yesterday went well. But he still is non-weight bearing. They think his issue is related to post surgical reaction and increased blood flow for healing. He has to stay relaxed with his leg highly elevated all weekend - which means he is not supposed to be doing what he has been over the past week, like all of the yard work.

Yesterday, I continued on my pity party, and journaled about my struggles and what I am feeling with this new diagnosis. My doctor told me he would order the breath test or I could just drink some milk and see what happens. Either way, I have to be sick to see if I am intolerant and with the episode I had the other night, I am not risking making myself sick. I will have to wait until early June for the results of the sensitivity test that I did myself and sent in. A company called Everlywell does different do it yourself tests, so I did the food sensitivity one.

I was going to go out for lunch with DS #2 to the seafood restaurant I got the tuna from and was going to try the fish and chips or fried clams this time. As I was talking about this with DS, he mentioned that they were covered in a buttermilk breading - which sent all of my spidey senses into overdrive and that's what sent me into my pity party. Another favorite food and I probably cannot eat either. And that is probably what caused my issues the other night since I think that is what they dip their Kung Pao Cauliflower in as well - it might not be the wasabi creme since that could have been made with mayo. I am going to need to go there and ask the manager.

I made cauliflower crust pizza last night for dinner with vegan mozzarella. One had some crispy pieces of ham as a topping and the other had peppers, onions and mushrooms. Although it was different, and had a slightly different flavor than regular cheese, it was still really good - even Jimmy liked it. Considering my issue is going to effect him in how I cook, he is going to need to adjust.

All of these "events" lately have been forcing me to not exercise other than walking. I feel weak and my stomach feels like it was beaten up and then of course my mental state is down in the dumps. Hopefully today I feel better and can do something.

@Patti - I hope your eye appt went well and you go do do some me time or errands after.

@Barbie - I hope your feeling better today and your pain went away.

I think now my biggest problem is fear. Fear of getting sick again like I was that last time. I don't want to be that sick again, and thinking about putting any food in my mouth is making me crazy thinking I will be sick. The journaling actually helped me feel better yesterday, so I am definitely going to need to keep it up.

That's why I am looking for online classes. Nothing is offered when I want to exercise, which is early morning as well.

Good evening Lovely Lilacs. It was another chilly day here, but at least it wasn’t raining. I was in quite a bit of pain this morning, left neck shoulder and arm, right hip, and bottom of my feet. Marv and I got in a nice walk in and I wasn’t in too much pain. When I got home I did stretching and foam rolling. After lunch I took my friend grocery shopping.

When I got home I did about 10 minutes of upper body strength and more stretching.

When I took Marv out in back this afternoon I discovered I had a lot of strawberries ready to be picked so I had a yummy after dinner snack this evening.

@ Lesley – I am sorry to hear about another lactose event. I am sure it will be a learning event for you, but after you have been doing it for a while you will be better able to avoid the problems. I have severe stomach issues when I eat onions and those are put in so many things, but I am learning how to choose things now. For sure I can’t order potato salad because it always has onions. Sometimes cooked onions are not a problem, but many times they are.

I hope Jimmy had a good doctor visit this morning.

I sprayed the sealer on the terra cotta pots, but that is as far as I have gotten on the birdbath. I hope tomorrow if it is warm enough I can start painting them. I still need to find the glue to glue them together. I never was able to find the picture I wanted to go by, but I do remember how it looks, just not the decoration so it will be my own version which is probably just as well.

LOL I used to forget to check you tube, but I am doing better. I used to take Zumba classes, but I don’t think I could do a 60 minute class right now and I would prefer workout out in the mornings and the classes are in the evening. I hope you will enjoy them as much as I do.

That is part of why I am journaling right now too – to take to my doctor’s appointment so I can tellhim what I have been doing to get my blood pressure under control.

Good morning Lilacs,

I had another lactose event the other night when I ordered out for some Tuna Tartare. Didn't realize there was a wasabi "cream" sauce. I thought it was just wasabi. I took a lactaid pill when I saw the sauce under the tuna, but that didn't help at all. I wound up having a pity party for myself yesterday - I thought that this would be manageable, but suddenly, I order something I thought would be dairy free, and I am realizing that it is not going to be that easy.

Jimmy needs to go into the doctor this morning. He has an appointment in 10 days to take his cast off permanently and give him a walking boot. He is hoping they do that today, since overall, he has healed well. His pain seems to be slightly better and the swelling seems to be going down. The medication must be doing something.

Didn't get to do any errands yesterday. Jimmy forgot to take his leg crutch with him and trying to shop with the 2 crutches is difficult. So, we may do that today after his dr appointment or we will stay in Boston and have lunch someplace. We will see.

@Patti - That's great that he found transportation and now he can get things scheduled. I hope things go okay for him.

@Barbie - Have you started the bird bath for outside? I think it was a birdbath you were doing with the terra cotta pots?

Funny, I never think of looking on YouTube for classes. I will go there and find a Zumba class. I have never done one, but they look fun, so I have always wanted to try.

I have to really start to keep a journal so that when I go to the doctor I will have some info regarding this condition that just suddenly appeared. I am going to need to meet with a dietitian. So this is forcing me to journal at least about my food and how I feel.

@Amy - I am sorry to hear about Denny. emoticon

It was another rainy and chilly day here. Marv and I got in a 30 minute walk without getting too wet. Then I did a 30 minute Zumba gold class. Then it was time for lunch. After lunch, I left to go pick up Marv’s prescriptions I ordered yesterday and then went to yoga which was a great class.

This evening I have been knitting on the neck warmer scarves I am making for Christmas gifts, and will probably work on them some more and doing my journaling.

@ Lesley – I hope you enjoyed your half day off from work.

Good luck to Jimmy tomorrow. I am sure it was a relief to know it is doubtful it is a clot. Have an enjoyable lunch after the appointment.

I am glad to hear most of your vegetables are doing well. Mine are also.
I found the Zumba gold classes on you tube. Today I did another one and I liked it also. They are lots of fun and I like it being at home so I don’t feel judged. LOL

I hope when you finally go to the grocery store you can be strong and not bring home snacks. That is a downfall for me also.

Good luck to us both in our attempt at journaling. I have done the same, start and stop. I have really been stuck in my attempts lately to become healthier and lighter so I am really going to make a concerted effort to carry through on this in the hope that it will help me to stay focused on what I want to achieve.

@ Patti – A quiet day sounds nice. I didn’t have to water the plants yesterday or today because it rained and that was a blessing for me.

I am glad your friend found transportation. I hope the date is set soon for his procedures.
@ Amy – So sorry for the sad news about Denny. I know how difficult this time is for the family. I pray peace for them all. I understand about you not feeling up to chatting and wanting to be there for Karen. I pray your ankle continues to improve daily.

Sorry, Ladies!

We got the news that they are going to take Denny off the respirator soon, maybe when all the family members can get to Karen’s house since some have to fly in from Texas, Tennessee and Minnesota. I will try to stop in when I can, but right now I don’t have the heart to chat. I am focused on being there for her and also taking care of my ankle. Thanks for understanding!

Good morning everyone. It will be a quiet day. Later I will water the plants.

Lesley: I got my errands done and my friend finally found transportation.

Barbie: My friend found transportation. Now he is waiting for another date for his procedures. Since he is in a wheel chair and paralyzed he needs to have the procedure done in a hospital. The doctor wanted him to have it in another building that is not equipped for him just in case something goes wrong.

Good morning friends,

Half day at work today. I have a meeting that I need to run this morning, otherwise I would have taken the whole day.

Jimmy spoke with the doctor. They put him on an antibiotic and need to see him on Friday so its good I took the day off now. They have no idea what it could be - its not near the surgical sites, so infection is kind of a stretch, and doubting it is a clot. But in case there is an infection, they did the antibiotic until they could see him. Since we will be in town, it will be nice to go have lunch after his appointment.

Today, we are going to take Jimmy's car to the car wash for a pollen cleaning and it needs gas. Then off to home depot for a few things to open the pool that we need.

Looks like one of my cucumber plants might not be taking too well. I think while we are out, i might pick up one more in case I lose it. All of my other plants are doing well so far. We have cucumbers, tomatoes, Lettuce, eggplant, zucchini, red peppers, banana peppers, snap peas, green beans, scallions, and garlic.

@Patti - Good luck with trying to find transportation for your friend for the procedures. I had both done a few years ago as well and it went pretty easily. I hope you get your errands done.

@Barbie - Where did you find the Zumba Gold workout? I've been looking for some Zumba workouts to try. I thought they would be fun to do.

Way to go not buying a snack!! I think that is another reason I am avoiding grocery shopping. I will shop the aisles and bring home the snacks - delivery keeps me focused.

I have been trying to start a journal. I find myself starting and stopping all the time. Cannot seem to get one going. I am giving it another shot as well starting this week. This time I might just do an online one to give me something to do while I am watching TV at the end of the day. See how I do with it before I buy something to write in.

@Amy - Thinking of you.

Good evening Lovely Lilacs. It was much cooler today and we got some rain although not a great deal. Marv and I did manage to get in a nice 45 minute walk without getting wet which was good. When I got back home I did 20 minutes of a Zumba Gold workout video and stretching. I think I did good and it was fun and got my heart rate up. I am hoping to make it a regular part of my workouts as well as getting back to doing some strength.

After lunch I cleaned out and washed the refrigerator. It felt good to have that task done. Then I ran to Lowe’s to get some dog friendly snail bait. When I got home I folded two baskets of clothes and got those put away.

When I was running errands I really wanted to get an unhealthy snack, but I reminded myself that my goal is to limit sweets so I did not succumb to the temptation. This evening I started a journal which I plan to use daily to help me achieve my health goals. I am hoping it will help keep me focused better.

@ Patti – Yay for a little warmer weather. I hope you got your errands done. I am glad your friends’ appointment went well today. I wish him success in finding transportation for the colonoscopy and endoscopy procedures and those both turn out good. I had both procedures done at the same time the last time I had my colonoscopy.

@ Lesley – I hear you on not being able to deal with boring work days. I hope tomorrow goes better for you.

I am sorry to hear that Jimmy started having foot pain today. I hope he was able to get that looked at and resolved today and it is not a clot.

Thank you for the information on the white beans. I will have to try that. I did not realize they would stay in the refrigerator for 3 weeks. That is great to know.

I am glad to hear that you and Jimmy both had to get new power cords for your laptops, not that you had to get them, but that it solved the problems. I was afraid it might be something worse so it is good to know it happens.

I used a T.E.N.S. on my shoulder today and that did seem to help so I am feeling much better. I think yoga yesterday did help too.

Thank you for inspiring me to get my refrigerator cleaned out. It feels good to have it off my to do list.

@ Amy – It was so good to hear from you. I am sorry to hear that you have peripheral neuropathy which is causing some of your pain issues. I am glad you are able to loosen the boot when you are sitting and I hope that helps some. I have been thinking of you and hoping you had a good day today. I am so glad Lizzie is okay. That would be quite frightening.

I am sorry for the not so good news about Denny. I am thinking of them and praying for them.

Good morning. I may run out for errands later on today. It is supposed to be a little warm today.

Lesley: I am sure that I will get me time on Friday after my appt.

Barbie: My friends visit went okay. They are trying to schedule a colonosopy and an endoscopy at the same time. Problem is transportation. He is trying to find a ride to and from the procedure. I can't drive his van and he can't fit in my car.

Good morning Lilacs,

I cannot deal with the boring work days. By the end of the day, I am so frustrated I get angry. Today, might be a bit different. Yesterday Jimmy started having foot pain - its not in his ankle, it is on the top of his foot. Tender to the touch, and painful enough that he had to take one of the pills he got from surgery. He will call this morning, and I am sure that they either want to see him or get him into the ED in case it is a clot.

I made some white beans in the instant pot yesterday. Did a pound and they are tastier than canned. I did it with garlic and onions and seasonings. The beans can now stay in the liquid in the fridge for 3 weeks, or I can freeze some. I do have a sealer bag system, so I might take some and freeze them.

@Barbie - Funny, a few months ago, Jimmy and I had problems with our laptops - we both have a Microsoft Surface - both needed new power cords.

I hope your back feels better. I would think it is from all of the weeding and the bending over. Maybe the yoga will make it feel better today.

@Patti - I hope you get in some me time!!

@Amy - thinking of you - good to hear from you. That's why Jimmy is happier with the removable cast. At least he can take off the whole thing or just the top for some brief relief.

Glad to hear that Lizzie is okay. I remember our lab, Dudley, had an issue like that. I actually put my hand into his throat to dislodge it. Have never used another one since.

I am sorry to hear about Denny.

I am so bummed that every time I have tried to do the challenge this year, something has happened to mess me up. I had a bad day with pain Sunday and yesterday. I called the surgeon’s office to see about pain pill renewal and what else I could do. In doing research, it seems as if I have peripheral neuropathy and it will take awhile to get better from that. They said that when I am seated, I can loosen my boot straps -they are just so confining and give me the pins and needles and burning pain up and down my whole lower leg.
Last night we had bad news about our friend, Denny. He became septic and had renal failure. They put him on dialysis as one last measure to see if they can work on getting his lung capacity back. I went over to sit with Karen for 3 1/2 hours this afternoon so she wouldn’t be alone until her stepdaughter flew in from TX again. They talk with the doctors together to make the best decision for his needs an according to the care he said he would want or not want. I left at 3:30 and she still hadn’t heard. I gave her a comfort blanket and friendship card and we bought her a salad for lunch, although she hasn’t been able to eat.
On top of that sad news, Lizzie swallowed a piece of her chewy (bully) stick and it got caught in her throat last night. We got very upset seeing her roll around and kick at her neck to try to dislodge it. We weren’t sure how big it was and if it went down so Dave took her to the emergency vet to be on the safe side. He had to wait there a long time and didn’t get home till 2 AM. Thankfully she was ok. I stayed awake until he texted that he was on his way home and then conked out. He said the lights were on and I was rocking the house with my snoring! I do not like to sleep on my back.
Today was a better day early on pain-wise. Before going to Karen’s, I had my first outing, going to my book club meeting. A neighbor picked me up in her golf cart and the hostess had her garage door opened, so we could pull in and all I had to do was use the walker a short distance to the recliner she had set up for me.
I will do my best to read and respond to your posts tomorrow. Right now I am typing this on my iPad, flat on my back on the sofa with the lights out!
Good night!

It was much cooler here today. Marv and I had a nice walk though. We got about 1.7 miles in today. Then I did some stretching because my upper body is really tight and hurting. I have decided to take a break from all the weeding for the rest of this week to see if that helps.

I enjoyed another lunch on the patio today even though it was a bit chilly. After lunch I went to Staples to see what was going on with my laptop. Apparently it needs a new power cord. I had to come home and order it from Amazon as it has to be brand specific. I hope it gets here quickly and is the problem.

Yoga was a small group today, only two students and the instructor, but it was a great class.

@ Patti – I hope your friend’s appointment went well. Nice that you got your eye appointment so quickly. Best of luck with that and I hope you have time for some me time.

@ Lesley – Nice job on your exercise yesterday. Great plan to have your meetings outside today. I hope that went well.

I hope your instant pot meal turned out good.

The Covid restrictions sound very similar to what they are saying is coming here. I think there will be many people, at least in this area, that will go without masks even if they are not vaccinated since that issue has been a heated topic here. Like you I will feel strange not having a mask on.

I think what you said about the trees making bigger messes makes sense. I never really thought about a reason for it before and I didn’t think I was that blind before. LOL

@ Amy – I am thinking of you and praying you are doing okay.

Good morning fiends,

As predicted, yesterday was a boring day. I got my walk, bike ride and yoga in in the morning. Then pretty much quiet for the rest of the day. I've got a bunch of meetings today - its going to be 80 so I think I will fire up the laptop and take them outside.

Today, I am going to do some instant pot white beans and eggs. I made a mashed white bean salad, but it was canned beans and they needed more flavor, so trying this today. And get some mushrooms, peppers and onions done for wraps for dinner.

All Covid restrictions are being lifted here on May 29th. Its still a little confusing to understand - its it only for vaccinated people, and how do you know if someone is vaccinated? I think this is great, and glad to see that we are finally getting to a normal state, but hopefully it is explained a little better. I am going to feel strange walking out with no mask.

@Patti - I hope you were able to get an eye appointment. I had to get one as well, and had to wait until June. Good luck with the diet!!

@Barbie - You got a lot done in the morning yesterday. I agree with you - the trees the past 2 years have made big messes. I think its because the air is so much cleaner, they are blooming so much more then normal - pandemic effect. emoticon

I am waiting for the flowers that I planets to bloom a bit before I start building my fairy garden - you definitely did inspire me. Hopefully, you get your fridge wiped down. I did get it all done Sunday.

@Amy - I hope you are okay.

Good evening Lovely Lilacs. I am sorry I didn’t make it on to chat yesterday, but I am having issues with the cord connecting to my laptop not working and I just didn’t have the energy to go to the desktop. I guess tomorrow I will have to go see if I can find out if it can be fixed. I sure hope so because the laptop isn’t that old.

Sunday I woke up with severe allergy eyes so I didn’t feel too motivated to do much. I changed sheets on the bed and washed them and a load of towels. I needed freggies for a recipe I was going to make so I went to the grocery store in the morning. I also needed a new Fitbit since mine died on Saturday. When I got home I had to charge that and get it ready on the app which took much longer than it probably should have. Then I finished cleaning off the patio and watered the garden and some flowers that are not watered by the sprinklers.
Today started out a lot cooler than yesterday, but it ended up getting pretty warm. Bob had to go to Myrtle Creek (about 20 miles South of where I live) so I said I would go with him. He was lucky and they were able to fix his weed eater while we waited. Then we went to the dog bakery they have there and bought some treats for Marv since he wasn’t able to go with us.

We got back to my place about 11 so Bob left to do his other errands and Marv and I went on a short walk. It was a little warmer than Marv likes, but we had water so it was a good walk. Then it was time for lunch. I have been eating out on the patio and enjoying being outside and seeing my Fairy Garden and Marv likes laying on the cool cement.

In the afternoon I worked a bit on cleaning out the front flower beds, but it was quite warm by then so that only lasted about a half hour.
Today I made a soup recipe, not the one I had planned on, but a different one that I have made before, but I used lentils instead of navy beans.
@ Patti – I am glad you and your friend had a nice drive. It is always nice to get out for a drive. Good luck with your eye appointment. Mine isn’t until the first part of July and I think I will be buying new glasses then.

Good job getting your arm exercise done.
@ Lesley – I am glad you enjoyed a nice dinner out. I am sure Jimmy was happy to be out of the house.

It sounds like the neighbor’s house wasn’t meant to be for you. Like you said, another one will come at that will fit your budget and hopefully by then the lumber prices will have gone done some.

I am glad you found a dairy free cheese that you and Jimmy both found pretty good. I hope the Ben and Jerry’s will be good also.

I am glad your summer weather is finally showing up. Good plan on cleaning out your fridge before the warm temps get here. That is on my list to do also. Maybe you will be my inspiration to get it done.

Thank you for your comments on my Fairy Garden. I have really been enjoying sitting out on the patio where I can see it. I hope the ideas I have supplied will give you the inspiration you need. I too love the tin man. My daughter made one for me and her step-mom for our birthdays. Looking at it puts a smile on my face.

The funny thing about the whirlybird things is that I don’t remember them being such a problem, but last year and this year, they have been overly abundant and a huge mess.

@ Amy – I have been thinking of you and praying you are improving some each day. Poor Lizzie looks so cute in your picture. I have been noticing the last couple of days that Marv seems to be feeling better because he is all ready to play which was not the case for the past four plus months. I continue to hold Denny in my prayers each evening.

Good morning

This morning is starting out rather chilly. I need to call and make an eye appt for later this week. It is my regular eye exam. Just got done with most of my arm exercises.

Lesley: It was a nice ride. We are trying to do a pre diabetic diet since my friend needs to lower his blood sugar.

Good morning Lilacs,

I skipped my bike ride and yoga for a few day so getting back into my morning exercise today.

My neighbor's house which we were looking into buying is up for 499,399 and already has 2 offers for 570,000. We were prepared to put in an offer not exceeding 550,000, which is too high as it is, but this is too much and we are not going to go that high, esp., with the cost of renovation going as high as it is now too. Oh, well. Another place will come along and it will be perfect.

Not much to do for work today - so its going to be a boring day. I bought a book about going dairy-free so I will need to start looking at that and finding some new recipes. I bought some vegan cheese - a brand called ViolIfe. Jimmy and I both tried the cheddar and found it pretty good. And I bought some dairy-free Ben and Jerry's - so I think I have got it covered.

@Patti - I am glad your friend is better and you were able to get out for a drive. I hope our markets will finally start to open.

@Amy and Barbie - hope you have a nice Sunday!

Good morning everyone. My friend is back to normal. We actually went for a drive and then came home and grilled out for dinner.

Lesley: I went to the farmers market and they do have more veggies out.

Barbie: The farmers market finally has more veggies out and I got a couple of tomatos and red potatos.

Amy: Yeah he was happy about that. He is now doing okay. Got my yardwork done yesterday.

Good morning Lilacs,

Dinner yesterday was wonderful. We had a great time, and good food. We went to the Tuscan Kitchen and sat outdoors. Jimmy was just thrilled to be out of the house.

I wound up doing delivery for groceries. Looks like I will be going grocery shopping another day.

It looks like we have entered summer - temps are high 70 - 80 for the coming week. I've gone from winter coat and gloves in the morning to sitting outside having morning coffee today. Not much else going on. I actually think I will clean the fridge. Before the really warm temps come, it would be good to give it a good wipe down.

@Patti - I hope you were able to get some veggies.

@Amy - I hope you get your money back. I could understand if they didn't have someone to take your spot, but since they did, they should refund it.

Hopefully your pain subsides. it took Jimmy about a week for it to totally be gone. Lizzie looks so cute looking at you like "what's going on Mom?". Chores will always be there. With Dave being sick, let them be until you both feel up to them.

Continued thoughts for Denny. Hoping he continues to improve.

Jimmy has a removable cast. They cast the leg and then once it is dry, they cut it down both sides and put velcro around 3 areas. This lets him take the cast off when he is relaxing , but he keeps it on when he is moving around and sleeping. That's what they gave him after his stitches were removed. He goes back in 3 more weeks for a walking boot.

@Barbie - I love your fairy garden. Maybe that's what I will do around the new area. You have given me a few ideas! I love the tin man!!

Our tree does those whirlybird things too - but every other year. We had them last year and they make quite the mess.

It was another beautiful day here. Marv and I got in a nice 2.2 mile walk this morning. It was a bit warm so we took water for Marv. After our walk I blew off the driveway and porch. There was an abundance of little helicopter-like things from the trees that kept getting tracked into the house.

After lunch, I spent a couple of hours cleaning off the patio. I about 2/3s done so I will finish it tomorrow.

Here is a picture of my little fairy garden in my back yard close to my patio so I can enjoy it when I sit out there. The close-up is of my “tin man” which my daughter made for me for my birthday and brought up when she was here in April

@ Amy – I am sorry that you have been having the delayed pain, but it could be that you let it get out of control and it is hard to get it back under control. It always seems like the nights are the worst. I hope that you will get it back to manageable soon.

I am glad you got to go outside and enjoy some of the beautiful weather and the birds singing and chimes. I am glad you are able to enjoy some time with Lizzie, but I am sure she is confused. I think Marv has been that same way for the past four months, not understanding why his life has changed so drastically.

That really sounds hopeful about Denny. I will continue to keep him in my prayers too.

Good luck on resolving the deposit issue for the RV resort. Since they didn’t lose any money and it was extenuating circumstances, it seems like they would have compassion.

No worries about not doing the points for the challenge, but I hope you will continue to come and chat.

I understand you wanting to help Dave with chores, just remember to take it easy and the chores will always be there. I hope Dave feels better soon.

@ Patti – I hope you enjoyed your outing to the farmers market and you were able to get some veggies. I wanted to go also, but never made it.

@ Lesley – I am glad you enjoyed a quiet day yesterday. Yay for not needing gloves when you and Riley went for a walk.

I hope you had an enjoyable dinner with your friends and that Jimmy did well.

I am glad you are enjoying your haircut. How nice that you have your appointments scheduled out for a year. That is what I should do too probably because I always forget to call.

Hi, Ladies!

I have had two challenging days - the pain kicked in badly Thursday night, so I started the pain meds they gave me and kept my leg elevated all day yesterday and today. It is so frustrating to me to be so helpless, especially since the first couple days I was so proud of myself being able to get around easily with the walker and only taking Tylenol. Guess it took awhile for the nerve block to fully wear off. Now my leg hurts just going on the walk to the bathroom. The pain was manageable during the day on Thursday and Friday, but by late afternoon/evening I felt pretty miserable. I think i got about four hours of sleep both nights since I couldn't get comfortable and hurt so badly. Today has been quite a bit better, and tonight I took a pain pill in advance to anticipate the pain (motrin during the day) and I have this new wedge that got delivered today that is more comfortable to lay my leg on in the recliner and in bed.

It was a beautiful day outside, so after taking a sponge bath and getting dressed on my own, I went out on the birdcage to sit. There was a nice breeze and I enjoyed listening to the birds singing and the chimes I got in memory of my parents ringing. Lizzie joined me. Here is a picture I took of her that I love. I said "Who's the pretty girl?" and she cocked her head. She just doesn't understand why her Mommy can't take her out for walks and play with her like I used to. The best I can do is wrestle around with her on the sofa.

You'd think they would solve the issue with sideways pictures in posts. They have a way to preview it when you write your blogs.

I haven't gotten depressed since I keep thinking that this will pass and am more concerned about Denny and Karen. It seemed to get worse and worse each day and I was losing faith that his body could withstand all that he is going through. I was wrong about the two weeks though - it was two months. But now I think he just might make it through. Yesterday Karen asked us all to pray for him at 10 AM and we all passed the request to other people we know. I believe in the power of prayer and after that, there was some good news (yesterday and today) Today's was the best when they said things were going in the right direction. He is still intubated and on a respirator, but they are going to try to get him off it by next week. Transporting him to Shands Hospital was meant to be. They have cutting edge technology with excellent doctors. In fact they did a new procedure for Covid patients on respirators called a diaphragmatic pacer to help them breathe and get them off the respirator more easily. Every day we are in touch with Karen to give her support. Her youngest son was with her the rest of the week and then yesterday she and Ryan went to her oldest son's house to stay two nights. I bought her a comfort blanket with reassuring words on it and a cross angel to hold, which I hope to give her this coming week. I also want to paint her a card once I feel up to it.

Tomorrow we were supposed to head out for our week RV trip in Destin. That obviously got canceled and Dave said their policy was not to give the deposit back (over $200) if you canceled less than 30 days out. Well, I was very upset by that since this was extenuating circumstances for the cancellation. I called and talked to the guy working in the office about what happened and couldn't we get a voucher for another trip. He said he wasn't control of it but could direct me to another number to talk to a manager of the company the RV resort belongs to. I did but the manager in charge of that wasn't there, so she said I would here on Tuesday. It's not like they lost out on money - they had someone else in our spot, because it is a very popular resort. Wish me luck - I am not usually so assertive, but want them to know if they don't make an exception, it will be their loss because we won't go back there. Maybe they are so popular, they don't care!

I can't see how I can possibly do points for the challenge since I have no exercise that I can do besides some leg exercises that take about 5 minutes to do. I will keep coming here to chat though! My eating hasn't been the best in that I abandoned keto - had pizza, ice cream and chocolate covered strawberries that a neighbor brought over. So many people have called and texted me. I have spent more time on the phone than anything I think. Tonight they had a 70th birthday party at the rec center for a neighbor and I RSVP'd a maybe, thinking that we could stop by for a few minutes. But we didn't - I am not ready yet to go out of the house, plus Dave came down with a cold.

Patti, hope you found some fresh produce at the farmer's market. Good job getting chores done inside and outside. Glad your friend doesn't have a UTI.

Lesley, hope you had a nice dinner out with dessert at the firepit. I bet Jimmy was ecstatic to get out of the house! I don't remember if you said he had a cast? How long will it be on? Mine is wrapped for now with the big clunky boot up to my knee on top. My right leg is all cut up and bruised from the fall, but I have no idea what my left leg looks like under the boot now, just that it's very sore. My guess is it has cuts and bruises also which contribute to the pain. They didn't really tell me what happens next beyond I will get xrays done at the follow up to see how it is healing and hopefully get the stitches/staples taken out at the same time. It's supposed to be 1-2 weeks after the surgery but I couldn't get in till almost three weeks on the 27th. I read up on my type of surgery and the article said you then could get a short cast put on. That is what I am hoping for and also that I can get one of those knee scooters at that point.
It feels so good to get a haircut - I might have my friend try to trim mine up a bit since I had to cancel mine that was supposed to be Wednesday!
That is too bad that your neighbor's house that you thought you might be interested in buying had so many people go to the Open House. Did you find out if there were offers made?
Congrats to your son#2 who got the tech aide job! It will be a wonderful experience for him!

Barbie, I'm glad you had such a nice birthday this year with Bob visiting, mowing your law, shopping and going out to lunch. You sure are doing a lot of yardwork - no wonder you are sore. I always wished you only had to weed once and they would never grow back. I love daffodils and azaleas and really miss that they don't grow down here. My sister was sending me pics of her flowers in her gardens today - pretty iris, bleeding hearts and coral bells. We have pretty flowers all year but it's just different than what I loved in the spring in PA.
That's nice that you took your son's birthday gift to him at work and that your DIL works there, too!
Thank you for the suggestion of keeping my leg elevated more - it has really helped. Hoping tomorrow is better with the pain. I want so much to help Dave with chores, especially since he isn't feeling well.

Have a spectacular Sunday!

Good morning Lilacs,

Yesterday was a quiet day both in work and home. Nothing going on. It was warm and sunny. I think this morning when I take Riley for a walk, I won't need gloves....finally!!

Today, we are going out to dinner with some friends. It will be an early dinner and then if we want dessert, we will head back here to my house and have dessert by the firepit. Jimmy is looking forward to it because he hasn't been out in weeks and just wants to get out of the house.

Not much else going on today. Looking at some new recipes for dinners/lunches this week. I may actually go food shopping rather than delivery. I am kind of looking forward to going. I better be prepared - I spend too much when I go - delivery keeps my spending in check.

@Patti - Glad he doesn't have a UTI. I hope he is feeling better now though.

@Barbie - That's great that you got to see your son and DIL. My haircut feels great! I have appointments made a year out so I have them ready to go every 5 weeks. It works best for my schedule.

@Amy - I hope you are doing okay.

It was a fairly nice day here. The day started out at about 53 which was a nice temperature for Marv and I on our walk. After our walk, we went to my son and daughter-in-law’s place of employment so I could drop of my son’s birthday card and gift. It was nice to visit for a short while with them.

By the time I came home, it was lunch time so I fixed a nice salad and sat on the patio to eat it. Then I worked on the weeding in the back yard and I finished the back yard. Then I came in and took a short break before going out in the front and worked on weeding and such there.

@ Lesley – I hope you enjoyed your hair cut. I need to make an appointment to get mine trimmed soon for the same reason.
Wow, the neighbor’s house sounds crazy. Who knew? I am glad you have a positive attitude about the whole situation.

Congratulations to your DS#2 on his job offer. It is great that he is finally making headway with his chosen career. I wish him much success in this opportunity. It will be a great learning experience for him.

@ Patti – Good job on getting some yardwork done. I am quite sore from all the work I have been doing out in mine. It will be nice when it is all finished and I can get a break. Good news that your friend does not have a UTI. I hope he is feeling better.

@ Amy – I hope you are feeling better and having some good days.

Good morning everyone. Yesterday I got a little bit more yardwork done. Today I will be going to the grocery store.

Lesley: The results came back for my friend, they were negative for an UTI. He was happy to hear that.

Good morning Lilacs!

Here's my blog for this week www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_p
ublic_jour
nal_individual.asp?blog_id=6

Today is haircut day. Can't wait. it grew fast and I have stragglers driving my eyes crazy!!

My neighbor's house that we are thinking about purchasing has 3 open houses starting tonight. The past 3 days, there have been realtors there doing private showing hours and with just that, there were at least 12-15 couples each night looking at the house. I can only imagine how crazy the open houses are going to be. This means that the bids will probably skyrocket and we won't be going that high. As I always say - if it was meant to be, it will be. I think this came too fast for us and it really isn't meant to be.

DS #2 got offered a job at MGH as a tech aide working the overnight shifts. Finally he is getting somewhere with his chosen career. This will help him immensely to get into school next year. And he is going to learn so much working the overnight where you really do help the technologists a lot.

Not much going on - beautiful stretch of weather coming - 70s for the next 10 days. I'll be spending time outside. The pine pollen has started - gross yellow stuff coating everything in site. Windows need to stay closed for the next couple of weeks unfortunately, esp., in the bedrooms.

@Patti - nice getting more chores done indoors. I hope it doesn't take long to get the results for your friend. Having a UTI for too long untreated is no fun.

@Amy - Great that you have support to help out! I am sorry that your leg started to hurt - be careful to not overdo things!

@Barbie - Sometimes getting an unplanned day off is nice. I have been doing beginner yoga classes in the morning and sometimes, the slower pace is nice good rather than a more experienced session.

Good luck getting the yard done today. I hope you are able to see your son to give him his present. Happy birthday to him! That was a nice Mother's day for you when he was born!

Today was another mixed-up day. Bob had to be at the doctor at 8 and then at the dentist for a new crown at 1 so he stopped by after his doctor’s visit. That meant that I didn’t get in a walk or much before going to yoga, but it actually felt nice to have the day off. Today was my son’s birthday; he was born on Mother’s day which was pretty cool. I tried to go by his work and give him his present, but he apparently was busy so I will have to try again tomorrow.

We had two new students at yoga so we had a beginner yoga class which was also a good thing.

Tomorrow I have no other commitments so I hope to get my back yard finished and then maybe I can finish up the front too. We shall see how long the energy lasts.

@ Amy – I am sorry you had tummy issues so long. You amaze me that you continue to persist after all you went through. You probably need to elevate your foot more. I hope you were able to get a good night’s sleep and tomorrow you will take it easier and have a better day.

@ Patti – Good job getting the vacuuming and sweeping done and trimming grass too. I am glad your friend is feeling some better. If he has a UTI I hope he will be put on a medication that works quickly.

@ Lesley – I am sorry your week has seemed so long. I really don’t like it when I thing it is Friday before it actually is.

I hope that your weather is finally warm enough that you will not need gloves in the morning any longer. It has been nice here and I am really enjoying it.

Yes, I really did have a nice birthday. Last year I spent the day alone so it was nice to be able to spend the actual day with Bob. The yard is coming along nicely. It is actually starting to look fairly decent. I am glad your bushes and plants are starting to come up in your new area. I love having daffodils and such as they really make the yard look beautiful in the early spring. The only thing I dislike is having to get rid of the stalks after they bloom, but it is worth it. My azaleas are just beginning to bloom.

Sorry again that this has to be just a short update when I wanted to get on here earlier - so much I wanted to share and chat with the three of you. But I had digestive issues till mid morning and was taking phone calls and texts all late morning and afternoon, plus shopping for some things I need on Amazon. Really so nice to have such caring friends and neighbors checking in with me! I also guess I was up walking around too much because I crashed after dinner and had to take a pain pill. My whole lower leg to my toes hurt and the pill has not been effective yet. Hope I can sleep. We will see what tomorrow brings!
Have a fantastic Friday!

Good morning.

Yesterday I vaccummed the carpets and swept the floors. I also trimmed some of the grass outside. Not much going on right now.

Lesley: Got the lawn done for at least this week. I don't like doing the dishes either but they need to get done.

Barbie: My friend was feeling better yesterday. He was up for a while. He believes that he has an UTI so on Tuesday we took a sample to the urologist and we are waiting to hear back from them.

Good morning Lilacs,

Its been a long week. I keep thinking today is Friday. Didn't do much yesterday. And don't have much planned for today.

It's sunny and warming up this week. Looks like a stretch of high 60-70, so happy about that. I really just want to put away the gloves in the morning.

@Patti - Good job getting the lawn done and getting your house work completed! I hate dishes. I just get so sick of doing them.

@Amy - That's the one thing about surgery - going to the bathroom after surgery. I hope it all works out. emoticon

@Barbie - Sounds like you had a great day for your birthday. And you are moving right along with the yard. All of our bushes and plants are starting to come up. The azaleas just finished blooming and the rhododendrons are just starting. In my new area, I think I would like to drop some daffodils and tulips in the fall so I can have flowers early over there

Yesterday I had a great day celebrating me. Bob had to be at the dentist at 7:00 a.m. and then he came over and mowed my lawns, we went shopping, and then we went out to lunch. It was a relaxing and wonderful day.

Today it started off warm and got to 80+. Marv and I went on a short walk and then I worked in my yard for a couple of hours. I am almost done with the back yard, trimming the daffodils back and weeding. I still have some in the front to do, but it will be great when the back is complete.

@ Lesley - I am glad your windows are all cleaned and looking great. I still need to do mine.

I am glad you enjoyed some time with your DS#1.

@Patti - I am sorry your friend is not feeling better yet.

@ Amy - I am glad your day was not too bad. I hope the night will be better than you are anticipating.

Hi, Friends,
Just a quick note to say I am not feeling well with stomach pains after drinking some prune juice after dinner to help along my bowels since surgery. I fear it will be a long night! It wasn’t a bad day though - I will write about it in the morning!

Good morning Lilacs,

My windows look great! They cleaned the windows inside and outside and all of the screens. Just in time for all of the pine pollen to start to collect on the screens. Maybe I should have waited for a few more weeks. Oh well.

DS #1 came over for a bit and we sat outside and enjoyed a nice glass of wine.

Today, no plans for anything. I'll get my exercise in and will do some calligraphy practice since it is a slow work day.

@Patti - Too bad that your friend still is not better. Hopefully he continues to improve.

@Amy - Welcome home! Its so nice to be welcomed by a dog when you come home! they are just so excited. Are you in a cast? When I broke my leg years ago, I was non-weightbearing for a few weeks, but had no cast, and had to use a walker as well. It was easier than crutches. Our shower had a built in seat, so we are lucky there.

@Barbie - I hope you had a nice day!!

Hi, again, Lilacs!

I got home mid-afternoon. It feels so good to be back! Lizzie was so happy to see me - she jumped all over me and was checking out my boot and licking the cuts on my legs. She seemed a bit scared of the walker!
I don't think I ever stayed overnight in a hospital before - maybe when I got impacted wisdom teeth out as a child. All my four surgeries here in Florida were outpatient from what I can remember. And I never had any broken bones before or traveled in an ambulance - all firsts for me! Not that I am happy about that! But I consider myself lucky this is my first and will keep reminding myself of that when I start to complain!
I am tired tonight, so I will just make this a short post. Want to try to catch up a little bit with everyone!

Congrats on winning Week 1! I really had planned on doing the points. Maybe I could have if I had started them early and kept adding to them. Now this week with the hospital stay and lack of exercise, I will probably just do Weeks 3 and 4.

Patti, I am so sorry to hear that your brother has Stage 3 lymphoma but glad the doctors are confident they can treat it with the chemo.

Lesley, that is so strange that Jimmy and I are so similar with our non-weight bearing ankle recuperation! I hate to be waited on so will get up as often as I can to do what I can. They want me to use a walker not crutches - we had one already, as well as a wheelchair and shower chair. I am looking for something to attach to the walker so I can carry things. I can maneuver pretty well wtih it so far and figure it is a good workout. It gets my heart going when I get back from the bathroom or going somewhere else in the house. The PT lady gave me leg strengthening exercises to do as well.
You got some great exercise in yesterday! Windows are a pain to clean, so I understand you getting them done, especially since you have a second floor. I wish they didn't get dirty so fast!
That's nice that your son wants to spend some time with you for Mother's Day. I missed the day this year, so I am not expecting anything. The recipes you shared look yummy!

Barbie, hope you had a lovely birthday celebration today! Sounds like you had a great day in the yard. So glad that Marv is keeping up with you on your walks now!

More tomorrow....I am going to chill the rest of the evening!

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

I am not home yet!! I fell asleep early like at 7:30 since I didn’t feel like doing anything on my phone and was down in the dumps. Also knew they come in through the night to take vitals etc so I would get interrupted. I passed PT with flying colors yesterday because I am strong and can easily manipulate the walker. Some things here have not been so good but that’s hospitals for you! I hope to be home by the afternoon and then I will have plenty of time to write and catch up! Have a great day!!!

Good morning Lilacs,

emoticon Way to go for week 1!!

Yesterday, I got a walk with the dog, a walk with the hubby, a spin ride and yoga. Felt good to get things accomplished, so now I need to keep it up.

Today, I have someone coming over to clean the windows. I kept contemplating how to get it done and the girl I have that cleans the house, said they were doing windows so I set an appointment since I didn't want to hang out or climb the ladder for the 2nd floor ones.

DS#1 is coming over as well to spend a little time with me for Mother's Day since he was working. I need to go look at my calendar and block off some time. I think I have a bunch of meetings today.

The house across the street went up for sale yesterday. We are looking into buying the house, but it seems that not only is the lumbar skyrocketing, but the houses are going for 60,000 over asking and this house is not worth that much money. We shall see what happens. There has been a lot of traffic to just look at the house today already. Riley is not happy with all of the cars stopping in front of our house. Open houses are coming this weekend. it is going to be a long week.

@Amy - I hope you are home and not in too much pain. Thinking of you.

@Patti - I hope you had a good day even though it was chilly.

@Barbie - Happy Birthday!! I hope your day today is special!

That's great that Marv kept up with you - another milestone passed for recovery.

The recipe for the Butternut Squash salad and the Avocado Balsamic dressing is below. I use this website for a lot of things - www.acouplecooks.com/ I didn't have an egg with it, and I had it on farro instead of greens today.

INGREDIENTS
3 cups butternut squash chunks
1/4 cup chopped red onion
1 Tablespoon coconut oil
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
sprinkle of sea salt
spring mix or baby spinach
Granny Smith apple, thinly sliced
avocado, chopped
red onion, sliced
toasted walnuts
hemp seeds
1 egg, cooked any way you like
avocado balsamic dressing

INSTRUCTIONS
Combine butternut squash, red onion, coconut oil, cinnamon and sea salt together on a baking sheet and roast in a 450° oven for about 30 minutes or until squash is cooked through. Remove and let cool.
Fill a salad bowl with spring mix and add toppings: roasted squash, apple slices, avocado, red onion, walnuts and hemp seeds.
Place cooked egg on top of the salad. Drizzle dressing over the salad and enjoy!

Avocado Balsamic Dressing
DESCRIPTION
Take your balsamic vinaigrette to the next level by using avocado to replace some of the oil. The result is a rich, flavorful and creamy dressing you’ll want to drizzle on everything.

INGREDIENTS
1/4 cup good quality balsamic vinegar
1 Tablespoon fresh parsley
2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar
1 clove garlic, minced
1 teaspoon brown mustard
2 teaspoons pure maple syrup
1/4–1/2 teaspoon sea salt
1/2 teaspoon ground pepper
pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)
3 Tablespoons olive oil, divided (1 Tablespoon will be used for sautéing garlic)
1/2 avocado
2–4 Tablespoons water, or more depending on the texture you prefer

INSTRUCTIONS
Sauté 1 Tablespoon of olive oil with minced garlic until garlic is fragrant. Turn off heat and allow to cool. This step is optional, but it adds a depth of flavor and makes the garlic a little less pungent.
Add sautéed garlic along with all the other ingredients except water into a high powered blender. Blend to combine. Parsley should be chopped well, but the dressing will be pretty thick at this point. Add in water to thin the dressing out a bit. Start with 2 Tablespoons and add more if needed. I found that 3-4 Tablespoons worked well for me.

I woke up to a cloudy morning, but it was actually fairly warm. Marv and I got in a great 2.2 mile walk today which felt wonderful. He was keeping up with me, not dragging like he has been. The rest of the day was spent in the yards. This morning I trimmed and edged in the front for about an hour, and in the afternoon, I worked in the back yard for another hour or so. Then I ran to the garden shop to pick out a hanging basket with the gift card I got for my birthday from Bob’s daughter and her boyfriend.

@ Lesley – I am so happy that your Mother’s Day was a beautiful day in the neighborhood and you were able to get everything done and relax with a glass of wine.

Good job making yourself some lactose free yogurt. I hope you like it.

I am sure Marv does feel like a new dog. I can’t imagine how he must have felt not being able to be bathed for so long. Thankfully he wasn’t smelling terrible, especially since we are sharing the bed. LOL It really does feel like a relief every new step that we are able to take for him.

Thank you for the information on the Violife Parmesan cheese. I haven’t been very experimental with cheese yet, but it is always good to have some options. I will definitely give that a try.

Your roasted butternut squash and avocado salad sounds yummy. Do you have a recipe? Today I made the avocado and white bean recipe again and it was so yummy.

You are welcome about the points. I don’t mind, especially since I am determining the team winner anyway.

@ Patti – It was a bit cooler here today, but I didn’t mind since I was working in the yard. I hope you were able to find things to do even though it was chilly.

I will be praying the treatment cures your brother.

@ Amy – I hope you feel a little bit better today and will be able to go home soon.

Good morning Lovelies,

Yesterday was a beautiful day in the neighborhood. I was able to get everything I needed to done, and then spent some time relaxing with a nice glass of wine.,

I made my yogurt - didn't realize that Fairlife, which is what I use for yogurt, is lactose free. So, I bought some Oat milk yogurt to use that as the starter and now I have lactose free yogurt.

@Patti - I hope your friend is feeling better.

@Amy - OMG - I am so sorry to hear this!!! You and Jimmy should be spending time together since you are both non-weight bearing!! Find a place that you can rent a scooter - that will at least help you get around so you aren't on the crutches all the time. Thankful that your ankle was the only thing that you hurt.

I am sorry to hear about Denny. emoticon

@Barbie - Marv must feel like a new Dog!! Each step you take must feel like this big relief!

I am glad you had a good day - dinner and all of the phone calls sound really nice.

I remember talking to you about some vegan cheese in one of our past BSG groups and maybe you hadn't found a good one? I figured I would start o buy some and try it. I needed some Parmesan for a recipe and bought some Violife Parmesan, 100% Vegan - It was actually pretty good. It didn't taste like parmesan, but Jimmy and I thought it tasted like the cheese on White Cheddar popcorn. I am making a roasted butternut squash and avocado salad and shaved cheese will be good on it.

Thanks for doing the points.
