I understand the pain dictating activities. I can stand in place for about 3 minutes and I am done. I was able to get it up to about 10 minutes for awhile but if I give in wham I am back to three minutes. I have so little endurance. Spinal stenosis from C5 all the way down to S2. Compression fractures to L4-L5, rotator cuff injury and repair,Severe arthritis knees, back, shoulders and wrists. Add COPD and heart valve disease my exercise is limited. I walk, I do strength exercises. Use hand weights and resistance bands. I have to rest often, sometimes use my O2 while doing walking in place. But we can do it. Please come and visit. This team is for you. We have good support and encouragement.

I don't know of anything I can't do, but pain dictates whether I want to. Love golf, but it's very painful at times. Scoliosis, spinal stenosis,Spondylolisthesis...probably another osis or two I don't remember. LOL

Walking for any length of time can set me back. Really want to get into yoga.

I do walking sometimes with a cane sometimes a walker. I do chair exercises. I use resistance bands. I have to be very careful of my back. Had 2 compression fractures last year, with spinal stenosis and bulging disc's and arthritis through out my body.

I've recently joined a gym with an indoor pool... Because the YMCA doesn't have one in my area and I've been swimming almost everyday! It helps my neck and back so much. I haven't been on Spark people for a long time. How is everyone doing?

Walking, exercise bike, "outside" bike (even with the bumps on the trail I utilize), swimming, weights that don't push or pull down on my torso.

I do seated exercises in a senior class, in which the back is never twisted. That's the worst danger. I don't add weights except maybe once or twice a year, if it doesn't hurt. You shouldn't do exercises that hurt, not are uncomfortable, when done. Check with a doctor before you take any of my advice. It has worked for me, but everyone is different.

It's been a long time since I did Callanetics. Really liked the modifications in it that allowed me to get into better shape slowly.

I can walk but I like to be holding onto something for stability like a grocery cart. I'm mostly bed bound but go to the store several times a week. I think I would be able to swim for a few minutes at a time as long as there was no twisting involved. I had a lumbar fusion in January...well the 29th. I had to not drive or even ride in a car til March 2nd. Then I went to my first follow up appointment and got to ditch my walker. Still had to wear a giant back brace anytime I wasn't in bed for another two months. Then I had my three months appointment and wear a smaller "corset style" back brace. If it weren't so hot I'd try to walk in the neighborhood some. Wish I still had a dog because I had to walk for him. I would do anything for hun. Welcome to the group it's not very active....nice to see some activity.

I can do alot of exercises on the Total Gym, getting on and off can be tricky though. Walking in a heated pool (not swim). Can walk slow for short periods on a treadmill. And some exercises while sitting in a chair

Wow, I just joined this group and I am so happy to hear from people, like me, with these types of injuries! My car accident was three years ago and I can finally walk 30 minutes at one time! I am working on walking everyday and I started lifing 2 lb weight this week. As I have so much nerve damage to my left shoulder I am not always able to lift weight, but sure would like to get back in shape! Working on it! Thanks, just for understanding what it is like.

I am almost one month out from surgery. I am feeling much better! I don't have full range of motion quite yet but much better than a month ago. Just yesterday, I did 3 miles with WATP video. I am down to taking my pain meds just 2x/day and muscle relaxer just at night. I think the bone growth stimulator that I wear 4 hrs/day is helping. I go to pt 3x/wk which is helping alot as well. I return to work March 10th. Hope to be able to exercise 3 days a wk and build up. The exercise keeps my spirits up! I hope everyone here is able to do some kind of movement daily or most days. Prayers for all of you!

Hey, I'm new! I can swim, occasionally bike (depending on which part of me has decided to hate me for the day), and some strengthening exercises (usually machines for arms and thighs.

I have neck and lower back issues (herniation in the middle of my spine and half of my neck). I'd love to hear about some exercises that would help strengthen and not leave me helpless for days :)

I can walk, bike, and do some light cardio (Walk Away The Pounds) and PT exercises. It seems if I venture out into anything else I aggravate my disc again.

I can't do swimming or lift weights because of drs. order. I'm grateful to be able to walk a total of one half block outside when weather permits. If I could lose weight reading I would be size 0. :)

Because of low back issues that cause balance problems, I am not able to stand to exercise without having something to hold onto. My PT suggested a stationary bike but I wanted something that will allow me to exercise other parts of my body. I found a Resistance Chair Rehabilitation Pack on Amazon ($320) that allows one to sit to exercise using resistance bands. The chair is very sturdy and comfortable. It has a step that I attached to the back of the chair and can do leg exercises while holding onto the chair. When I have saved the money, I will purchase the stationary bike apparatus that also attaches to the chair. All over workout. It is also sufficient to do the chair exercises on Spark. So far, I love it.

My new exercise routine is kinda long but it works for me.

Walking:
-I do 1mile on the tread-mill at 1mph (super slow I know),
- with my ankle and wrist weights on. (I don't remember the weight of them, but they were the heaviest ones I could find when I bought them)
- Every other minute I do arm curls for a minute, and then rest my arms, repeat.
- every 15mins I up the incline by 0.5% so by the end I'm at a 2% incline. This helps slowly stretch out my leg a back muscles that are having the problems, and giving me pain.

Weight Lifting:
- Then do 3 sets of 10 on the weight machine, doing a press set to target my upper back and shoulders, with a 2lb weight (I keep my wrist weights on too, just out of habit)

Swimming:
-I then head to the pool and do 10 laps (don't know how big the pool is)

Yoga:
-I do some light yoga in the sauna in the pool room, and just stretch everything out slowly.

The entire routine takes a while but I feel great afterwards. It's not something I can do every day, I try my best to get it in twice a week.

I also don't own a car, and bike everywhere.

Here is a link to the explanation of what T-Tapp is about. Don't let the photo of Teresa intimidate you. I haven't been asked to do that move in any of the workouts I've done. LOL

www.t-tapp.com/faq/what-is-ttapp.html

the main page is

www.t-tapp.com/

it's a good place to start and she has more and more advanced DVD's I haven't made it there yet.

most of the time I walk. I am trying to get myself into the habit of using my T-Tapp DVD's. I have no affiliation with this company but think they are good for people with back and other problems. Very low impact, can use them no matter what your starting point, no extra equipment or weights needed. The person who came up with this program has back problems herself, so she knows how to protect yourself from further injury and always stresses the correct way to move and hold yourself. So that will be my next challenge for me. I would like to use her program at least 3 times per week. Not sure if I can include a link here so I will put that in a separate message. you could google T-Tapp though and find her.

I can actually do quite a few different exercises. It has taken me many yrs to figure them out and most I have to do different then before my injury.

I can do the balance games on the Wii - I can walk with my walking poles (short distances right now) I can do the exercises videos Walk Away The Pounds 1 mile (with pauses) - I can swim laps - I have a exercise ball that I can do a FEW things on ;) I have exercise bands that I am able to do some things with. I can still "fast" dance for VERY brief moments, though I do look like I am ready to fall down at any moment lol - I can lift 2 to 3 lb dumb bell weights.

When I am in a my "groove" of exercising regularly I switch a lot of these things up, as I can only do most of them for a minutes or a few reps at a time.

I would love to know what exercises you can do? If it's walking that counts, if it's stretches that counts, if you use a exercise ball that counts. If you MOVE it counts emoticon

I want to get some more knowledge of this teams members so we can hopefully get some challenges going for Oct.
